A few weeks ago, I shared some of the treasures with you that I found in the mountains. There was a chair that didn't fit into the car with four people, one dog, and a whole lot of luggage. Well, I have the $10 chair now and here it is.
Isn't it great? Now, I love painted furniture, but am not one to paint just any old thing. My parents taught me to appreciate antiques and that there are some things you paint, some things you refinish, and some things that you leave alone altogether. We believe the wood is walnut and the finish is in good enough shape that it will not need to be refinished.
I love all of the detail in the woodwork.
My questions to you is what fabric would you cover it with? Do you think slip cover or upholstery? White canvas or twill. Pattern or no pattern? Stripes?
Talk to me.
Oh, did I mention that the plate wall was featured on The Design File? I was quite honored when Lesley asked my permission to feature the wall. If you haven't checked out this site yet, I highly recommend it. She shares great design ideas that she finds around the web. Check it out here.

What a gorgeous chair and a steal at $10.00. Good for you! I think this chair needs a patterned slipcover or a solid fabric that's a punch of color. I think a bold pattern or bright color would be a great contrast to the traditional style and finish. And with a slipcover, you can always change it out with your mood.
ReplyDeleteI always love white or cream with a dark wood makes both pop against each other.
ReplyDeleteI love the chair.
Just an opinion of another NC girl- oh love your salvage store you have in town..and all the other wonderful shops.

It's a beautiful chair and what a deal on it. I can envision it in a bold bright pattern like checks. Or even black damask.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful chair with all of the detailing on it and for only $10...what a great find!
ReplyDeleteI could see all sorts of great fabrics going with that chair, maybe you can find something over at Pigtown Design's blog (http://pigtown-design.blogspot.com/2010/01/holy-cowtan-tout.html) where she recently posted on some beautiful fabrics she found.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

I just found your blog and love it! Stop over sometime! Krista
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful chair at a great price. I love the wood and lovely details! You have great taste, so I'm sure you'll make a good decision! Congrats on being featured on Design file...it looks like you were among great company! Lisa
ReplyDeleteThanks for recommending my post and blog. I appreciate it! -lesley
ReplyDeleteI **love*** chairs with character! What a great find!
ReplyDeleteThe wood on that chair is so beautiful, I think a pattern would compete. I personally would cover it with a beautiful ivory linen and do a little short pleated skirt on the seat.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful chair! And $10? Wow!
Wow, I adore that chair.... I would choose a lighter solid color in any shade of your preference - as long as it would provide a sharp enough contrast to the beautiful wood, and play up how classy it is. I personally would go with an ivory or antique white linen as well. Gorgeous.
