Thrift Store Chair Reveal

"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." ~ Coco Chanel

Having access to so many talented and creative people is one of the things that I enjoy most about blogging.  Whenever I need an opinion on a paint color, a fabric, or an arrangement, there you are ready and willing to provide input.  Thank you for holding my hand through all of this ~ having a sounding board certainly makes  some of those decisions  more bearable.

Last week I asked for advice on this chair.

Most of you responded that a white slipcover would look nice and yes, it would.  I still might make one just for the heck of it, but truthfully, we needed a little excitement around here so I went with something different.

A few years ago, an acquaintance  entered our home and began to grumble about blue and how she didn't like it, particularly blue with green.  My insecurities got in the way and so I began working to eliminate blue, particularly blue with green.  Ten years later and a lot more gray hair, I realize that it is important to do what you like and to feel good about it.  There, that feels good.

So, here we are with a blue chair.  You could say that this is a statement chair of sorts...or a mid-life crisis chair I suppose.  Anyway, blue is back.  Welcome home blue!  I've missed you.

I'm glad you decided to go with what you like because it turned out great! I've done that before too (more than I like to admit), where I try to do something based on whatever everyone is thinking at the time and it never seems to work out well for me. Here's to being ourselves. :-)

Great fabric! It fits the stlye of the chair beautifully.
And I love blue and green. In fact, I use those two colors in my living room. :-)

My mom has a lot of Delft (spelling?) tile and accessories in her kitchen, and your chair would fit in well there! It looks beautiful, and this is one instance in which I think it's wonderful that you didn't paint the wood. I love all things painted black, and I think black would have looked great with this fabric, but I love that you left it more natural. Great job!

I love that fabric, it's gorgeous!

Who in the world doesn't like blue? Blue seems to be very "in" right now and you should always decorate with whatever colors make you happy. I love blue and green together, it's very calming.

I find it amazing how many people feel free to walk into our home and critique it as though it's welcomed. I'm glad to hear you are learning to stick with what you like. It's your home and YOU need to feel comfortable in it! ; )

For the person that said that they didn't like blue and green, it isn't their home! ;) I'm with you. I love blue and green. A house can be decorated perfectly and if it's not "you" then "you" won't feel at home. I'm glad you went with what made you happy and didn't worry about the haters. lol! BTW, your chair makes me happy, too. :)

Hi, I think the pattern and color of the fabric strike just the right note with the old European feel of this great chair. And I agree, keeping the wood natural in this case is great...nice chair

Rene, This is a beautifully done chair. The fabric you chose is so appropriate for the style of the chair. It is classic and rich and very fresh! You could not have picked a more perfect cover.
And thank you for the wonderful advice. That is the truely transforming part of your post. It is OUR homes and WE live in them. Surrounding ourselves with what makes our hearts sing and what gives us comfort is so important.

And I don't think I would listen to someone who was so impolitely critical! Sounds like she could use some advice herself!

Thank you for the reminder to listen to my own decorating sense, and to appreciate others!

Love your blog!

I am in love with this chair! I am so glad you went with a graphic, yet classic fabric. The blue & white is a perfect contrast to the dark wood and it makes the chair look chic and current. Well done!
