The Entrance

Hi there kind souls.  Happy Friday.

It's another funky weather day here at Cottage and Vine and yes the kids are out of school again.  Having the kids home is always fine with me.  Some moms complain, but truthfully, I had rather have them home because I know those days are numbered.

Since you are always so kind to share insight with me, I thought that I would include you in a little project that I am thinking about and maybe together we can convince my husband.

It's the entrance to our home.

It needs lipstick, don't you agree?   We come and go through this door, hanging bags and jackets on the hooks you see there.  I've been thinking about recessed paneling on the bottom of the wall or maybe even beadboard paneling.

But more recently I feel the urge to do something with a little more oomph.  It wouldn't take much wallpaper to cover this small wall.

Then I start thinking about ways to make a statement that require less expense and commitment.

I have always loved stripes and could easily paint stripes on this wall.  They would have to be more subdued than this, but you get the idea.

Caitlin Creer showed us how to use floral tape to create a focal wall.

Then there was the chevron stripe made from contact paper at Sabbespot.

I'm really leaning toward a stripe of some sort.  Any suggestions?

  1. When you mentioned lipstick, I thought you were going to make it red. How about a bold color like red? I've done stripes and, honestly, it took a lot of work to paint them and then I was sick of them in a year. Stripes look nice to others who come in and see them once in a while, but I think if you have to live with them, it is harder. JMHO! If you go with stripes, I will enjoy seeing them!

    I'm painting my craftroom today. A pretty robin's egg blue. Love it!

  2. 100% agree with Tami on the bold idea. Definitely bold. Whatever you do, have fun with it. Like you said, it's a small wall, so you can do bold and it's right in front so it'll be awesome to see that right when you walk in. Can't wait to see what you do!

  3. Any of your inspiration pictures would be beautiful in your entryway! I can tell that I love your front door!
    We have been working on our entryway and have beadboard with a picture ledge. I was inspired by www.theletteredcottage.net in her dining room!
    I am seriously struggling to find the right paint color. I wish I was brave to do wallpaper! {redberrybarn.blogspot.com}

  5. I saw on Trading Spaces once where they painted stripes on the wall using the same color paint, except one was a high gloss paint and the other was a flat paint. It was a very subtle stripe but really looked cool!
