Mr. : "How was your day?"
Me: "Good. Did you have a good day?"
Mr. : "Pretty good. What did you do today?"
Me: "I painted the curtains in the living room."
Mr. : "Say that again."
Me: "I painted the curtains in the living room."
Mr. : "Oh, I didn't realize that our curtains needed to be painted."
Me: "It's not that they needed to be painted, it's more that they needed to be horizontal stripes."
Mr. : "Oh."
When you make panels from painter's canvas, you might as well have fun with them.
Martha shows how to stencil these pretty panels here.

Those are so neat! I never thought to do that. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteRene, they look GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteI think I've used painter's canvas for everything but this. I love this idea. Thanks for sharing it.

Well, missy prissy, how did you do that?? They look awesome. That had to be a hard job getting them so perfect. I love them!!
ReplyDeleteIt was actually easy until I ran out of tape. The new tape was 1/2" wider than the tape I was using. Had to tap into the gray matter to figure out the measurements from there, but it worked out. Now I want to make a floor canvas.
ReplyDeleteThese look great! Have always wanted to try this. Saving this little tutorial for future use.
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous! I love the neutral colors!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteTaking painting to the horizons. They look great! Did you have any problem with the paint bleeding under the tape.?
ReplyDeleteThat conversation you had with your husband would have been the same as I would have had with mine. Mine right now is going, "and why did we need stripes in the shed?" Well of course, because I can!
Looks great! So pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea, I don't even know what to say. It's one of those, light-bulb-turns-on-over-your-head kind of ideas. Thanks for the inspiration... !!!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! You have the best and most creative ideas! Love this one!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Cathy

Great blog...glad I popped in! Love the "conversation" with your hubby about painting the drapes...too funny!
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer from Houston, TX!
That's hilarious and the curtains are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThese look gorgeous! And perfect for that room!
ReplyDeleteI love your curtains! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteNow I am showing my age but it kind of takes me back to when I was a new bride and the country look was everywhere. I had some muslin curtains from Country Curtains and because I couldn't find the stenciled look in my colors, I stenciled those muslin babies myself. It looked great if you liked that sort of thing. The pattern, of course, screamed country and I loved it then but would have hated it now. These though are a modern day version and very fun

WOW!! I am so bookmaking this!

Hey Rene, If you don't mind, I will "pick your brain!" My daughter pulled a patio umbrella out of her Grandma's neighbor's trash can. My son was able to fix the broken parts, but it's pretty faded. We got some dye to change the color, but it said it would not work on synthetic materials. We don't know what this fabric is, but I'm pretty sure it's synthetic! Do you have any ideas? I thought about fabric paint, but haven't been down to the store yet. (We live in the mountains, and most of the big stores are at least an hour a way.) Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThese are marvelous! The wheels are turning....:)
ReplyDeleteRene, Tnank you so much fopr visiting my blog and leaving a comment! Those pajamas werent that cute! hahaha!

Wow, they look fabulous! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! We are moving into a new house and to save some cash flow I have decided to do canvas curtains through out the house. I was thinking of having the girls paint designs themselves to give their room a more personal flair. Because of your inspiration, I will do just that! I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your canvases?
Very cool! I had no idea this could even be done. They look marvelous!
ReplyDeleteWow, now I want to do that! What a great job!
ReplyDeletegreat choice! I love them.

The curtains turned out great! What color did you use? And any bleed through?
ReplyDeleteI have been dying to to this in our bedroom. After a year and a half we still do not have curtains because I am such a chicken! May I ask what type of paint you used and how you picked your stripe width? Now I am off to repeat I think I can a hundred times!! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the curtain love everybody.
ReplyDeleteAnita, I used the natural canvas from Lowes and the paint is Valspar white eggshell because that is what I had on hand. There was not a problem with bleed through as long as I was careful not to press the foam roller too hard.
Aimee, the stripes were 6" wide and I say go for it. I wasn't sure how it would turn out and with very little money invested, I had nothing to lose.
The 9 X 6 two pack of canvas is on sale this week at Home Depot for less than $10!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I never knew you could do this. I am featuring it at somedaycrafts.blogspot.com today! Grab my "featured" button.
ReplyDeleteI am truly amazed that you attempted this! They look fantastic! What kind of paint did you use, and how many coats?
ReplyDeleteSaw you featured on Someday Crafts...congrats! Glad you got some recognition. :) Way to go, girl.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am so glad I found your blog!s
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog.. this is awesome! They look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSo I gotta do this ! I love how this looks. Did you use regular acrylic paint? Doesnt it kind of harden the material?
ReplyDeleteI was up all last night thinking about curtains and whether I could paint stripes on them. I should have know you would have the perfect ones. I am so doing this. Thanks for the inspiration! I LOVE THEM
ReplyDeleteLinestrada, I used latex interior paint and yes, it did stiffen the fabric a bit. Wonder how spray paint would work? Also wondered about cutting the paint with water to thin it some. Let me know if you try it.
ReplyDelete-Rene
What a truly fantastic idea! I love uses for drop cloths. I have a large Dining Room Window that needs curtains, but the price of all that fabric keeps me from starting this project. You just gave me a great idea! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese curtains are so cool....Some day I'm going to try that! Probably make a mess of it, with my shaky hands!
ReplyDeleteLove these! I need to do this so bad!
ReplyDeleteSo clever and creative! Luv the soft colors and the modern twist! :)
