Mr. : "How was your day?"
Me: "Good. Did you have a good day?"
Mr. : "Pretty good. What did you do today?"
Me: "I painted the curtains in the living room."
Mr. : "Say that again."
Me: "I painted the curtains in the living room."
Mr. : "Oh, I didn't realize that our curtains needed to be painted."
Me: "It's not that they needed to be painted, it's more that they needed to be horizontal stripes."
Mr. : "Oh."
When you make panels from painter's canvas, you might as well have fun with them.

Well, missy prissy, how did you do that?? They look awesome. That had to be a hard job getting them so perfect. I love them!!
ReplyDeleteIt was actually easy until I ran out of tape. The new tape was 1/2" wider than the tape I was using. Had to tap into the gray matter to figure out the measurements from there, but it worked out. Now I want to make a floor canvas.

ReplyDeleteNow I am showing my age but it kind of takes me back to when I was a new bride and the country look was everywhere. I had some muslin curtains from Country Curtains and because I couldn't find the stenciled look in my colors, I stenciled those muslin babies myself. It looked great if you liked that sort of thing. The pattern, of course, screamed country and I loved it then but would have hated it now. These though are a modern day version and very fun

Hey Rene, If you don't mind, I will "pick your brain!" My daughter pulled a patio umbrella out of her Grandma's neighbor's trash can. My son was able to fix the broken parts, but it's pretty faded. We got some dye to change the color, but it said it would not work on synthetic materials. We don't know what this fabric is, but I'm pretty sure it's synthetic! Do you have any ideas? I thought about fabric paint, but haven't been down to the store yet. (We live in the mountains, and most of the big stores are at least an hour a way.) Thanks!!

I was thinking of having the girls paint designs themselves to give their room a more personal flair. Because of your inspiration, I will do just that! I love your blog!

ReplyDeleteI have been dying to to this in our bedroom. After a year and a half we still do not have curtains because I am such a chicken! May I ask what type of paint you used and how you picked your stripe width? Now I am off to repeat I think I can a hundred times!! Thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteAnita, I used the natural canvas from Lowes and the paint is Valspar white eggshell because that is what I had on hand. There was not a problem with bleed through as long as I was careful not to press the foam roller too hard.
Aimee, the stripes were 6" wide and I say go for it. I wasn't sure how it would turn out and with very little money invested, I had nothing to lose.
The 9 X 6 two pack of canvas is on sale this week at Home Depot for less than $10!

ReplyDeleteLinestrada, I used latex interior paint and yes, it did stiffen the fabric a bit. Wonder how spray paint would work? Also wondered about cutting the paint with water to thin it some. Let me know if you try it.

What a truly fantastic idea! I love uses for drop cloths. I have a large Dining Room Window that needs curtains, but the price of all that fabric keeps me from starting this project. You just gave me a great idea! Thank you for sharing!
