A couple of weeks ago, we made our annual trip to the strawberry farm to pick strawberries. This time I wanted to make sure that we picked enough to play with so we ended up with 8 quarts.
Fresh, really fresh, strawberries are such a treat. To me, there is nothing better than a warm strawberry picked right off the plant..well there could be a tie between cherry tomatoes and strawberries.
We enjoyed chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry shortcake, and I even made preserves.
When I canned the preserves, I wanted to make labels for the jars so I used the image from my cottage that
pve design illustrated. The recipe that I used came from here.
The strawberries that were left over were frozen to make this yummy treat that I saw at Southern Hospitality.
Are you planning to can anything this summer? Do you know of any good links for label making? I would love to hear about them.

Very nice, I love your custom labels! The strawberries in my garden are just starting to show color, I see a jam with them and rhubarb in my near future!
ReplyDeleteyum i need to make some!
ReplyDeleteYum!
ReplyDeleteI usually freeze peas and squash, but I want to try my hand at some canning this year if possible. Love the labels; those would make wonderful gifts if you could part with them! :)
Oh yum! I am craving fresh strawberries so bad now! Hope your having a wonderful week! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI have never canned in my life. My husband's sisters can everything. I know that is a lot of work. Those preserves look yummy in those jars with your cute house label. I love strawberries, too if they are sweet. I haven't had any good ones here in so long I forgot what a good sweet one taste like.
ReplyDeleteKim it really isn't that hard to make preserves. The real work comes at the end of summer when it is hot as blazes and the whole kitchen is steamy from canning. My mother has always canned green beans, tomatoes, and squash.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that strawberry season is over. It already seems like this spring/summer is flying by.
Yum! I am planning to visit our local strawberry farm today or tomorrow! Your preserves not only look delish, but I love those beautiful labels you used!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
Beautiful pictures Rene! And I love the labels. I wish I had a jar of the preserves right now. . .yum!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love strawberries and what you did with them is wonderful I like the labels too. Great idea

Oh my goodness gracious! My mouth is watering over these pictures!!! Don't you just love the fragrance in the air as you are picking? Love the labels too..thank you for sharing it all with us!
ReplyDeleteHi Rene!! How are you this week?
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how giddy I am over here looking at these glorious pictures and drooling over your canned preserves! Your custom labels are absolutely perfect, whoever the lucky recipients are will treasure them!
I am crazy over that first photo, absolutely gorgeous. xoxo
Awesome photo but I am biased I love strawberries!
ReplyDeleteMy youngest and I went strawberry picking yesterday and had a blast. We made two strawberry pies and five jars of jam last night. We will be going back for more soon. They just don't go far enough.
ReplyDeleteI blogged about our strawberry picking day on my family blog www.kinserfamilyfun.blogspot.com.
Enjoy yours...
Hi Rene - well, you've inspired me. I wasn't going to go picking and jamming this year. But now I HAVE to. There is nothing like fresh strawberries warm from the sun. We'll have to wait another month for the berries here in Toronto though.
ReplyDeleteOver Christmas, my mother in law gave me all her canning supplies. Have never canned, but want to badly. I love your jars and labels. Definitely inspiration for me to get started!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, strawberries! {and cherry tomatoes!} I need to get up to the strawberry farm for some fresh berries. Loves.
ReplyDeleteWe started canning last year and gave them away at Christmas. It all started with an abundance of jalepeno peppers. I have a question for you, I noticed that the label said you could pour over pancakes etc. Is this recipe a softer jam?
ReplyDeleteKristen, this recipe doesn't call for pectin which makes the jam or preserves thicker. The recipe that I used actually makes it more sauce like and I can vouch for the advice to serve it with ice cream. Yum!
ReplyDeleteOhhh ho ho this looks not only delicious, but those sweet labels take this over the top! LOVE it! Great way to gift give.
