I'm In

One day last spring I received an email from a close friend.  Stephanie asked me to join her in a walk to raise money for breast cancer this coming October.  I quickly responded with a yes, no questions asked.  To back track just a tad, Stephanie lost her mother after a courageous ten year battle with breast cancer.  During years and years of treatments her mother never stopped fighting.  Through it all, Mrs. L was everything I want to be, a loving mother, wife, and friend.  Needless to say, when Stephanie sent the email to a group of friends, we responded with a "yes", no questions asked.

(Isn't that a cute little cottage in the background?)

This walk will require training.  We will walk 60 miles over three days in Washington, D.C. and we will camp at night.  Even though I'm a runner, I will need to prepare my body for this distance.  We have been advised not to spend a lot of time together before the event - to save up something to talk about.  We find it amusing that anyone could possibly think this group would ever run out of something to talk about...I mean with a name like Walking Ta-ta Talkies.

Fund-raising is also part of the commitment.  I am responsible for raising $2300.   My official fund-raising kick-off began yesterday, I know, what took me so long?

We are all looking forward to this journey and hope that together we can make a difference for generations to come.  If you are interested in making a donation go here.  There is also a button over on the side bar that you can use.  No pressure, of course I will still love you.

My friend Laura was invited to share our story on the Triad Smarty Pants blog.  To read more about our group go here.

Is there someone in your life who has been touched by breast cancer?   I would love to walk in her honor or memory.  Leave a comment or email me cottageandvine@triad.rr.com

  1. Rene,
This is such a wonderful walk. My neighbor will be walking in Philly this year (for the second time)! Looks like a great group of girls to spend 60 miles with!

  2. This is so great! I think walking for a cause is a really great motivator. I was supposed to run NYC Marathon this November and raised money for my charity but my doc said "no way" after the surgery. The good thing is that I am continuing with the fundraising AND they guaranteed me a slot for next year, so this is good. Good luck with this. can't wait to read more about it. Is this part of the Team In Training group?

  3. What a great cause for you and your dear friends to support! One of my oldest friends just had her last reconstructive surgery after her double mastectomy last Fall. With all of our efforts we can cure this horrible disease!

  5. I will definitely contribute!!!
One of my best friends was recently
diagnosed {we were actually in Savannah together on a trip when she got the news} and I will be driving to Illinois in a few weeks following her surgery. She has an 11 and 12 year old and this is just the scariest time. I am actually welling up as I write; it is still so unbelievable. Thank you for participating in this great event!

Send me your link to donate - as we are raising money on the Caron's Beach House site with the purchase of 2 custom mermaid designed pillows.
