Before we get into all of that, I thought you might like to see what the lamps looked like when I purchased them from the Re-Store.
A little funky aren't they? When I saw them in the store I knew that I had to have them because it is rare to find a pair of lamps. They aren't exactly the gourd shaped lamps that I see everywhere, but they were cheap and with spray paint all things are possible.
I gave each lamp a coat of spray primer. Then I used glossy white spray paint.
The bases were gold, but I wanted them toned down and bit.
I used the hammered gold Rust-oleum and really liked the results.
And thankfully, most of us agreed that shorter harps were needed. Funny how the lampshade on the right sits a little lower. Oh well, Re-Store. I also picked up the finials yesterday at my local hardware store and gave them a coat of the hammered gold.

Wow, they turned out just wonderful! They really look like the high end ones. Trust me I looked for lamps for about 6 months before I found the ones I did. The rustoleum spray paints are great and I've used the hammered metal ones on a few projects.
ReplyDeleteI really love Re-store. We had one in Charleston when we lived there and I made a weekly stop. I need to do a search and find one close to me here in Buffalo.
Have a wonderful day.

You did a beautiful job on those lamps! It pays to be patient with spray paint..nice even finish..
ReplyDeleteI would be so proud.. they look marvelous.
Wow, I can't believe they're the same lamps!! I love to collect lighting...you've inspired me to go through & see what I have that I can work with! Thanks for showing us what you did!

ReplyDeleteWow! They turned out so pretty. They look so 'classy' and expensive. You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteRene, they look great. I forgot to tell you yesterday to get shorter ones. I love how they look now and I can't believe the shades are from Walmart. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous! I need to start thrifting for lamps to spray paint.
ReplyDeleteThey look amazing! I need loads of lighting throughout my place...thanks for the inspiration! Stacey
ReplyDeletePainting that top gold part was genius - it looks really good all white like that...you would never know they were blue and gold before!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, much better with shorter harps. I love the shape of them. You got a great finish on them. I will have to give it a try. Just need to find some!
ReplyDeleteEven MORE perfect!!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda :)
The lamps look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! I'd love some gourd shaped ones, too, but yours are just as good!
ReplyDeleteThe lamps look fabulous! They honestly do look like high end lamps. I once sprayed a floor lamp that had been repurposed(many times over)and it turned out great too. You did a wonderful job and the harps are perfect. Your entire room looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSpray paint is amazing, yes? They look great.
ReplyDeleteWow! No, really, WOW!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
Your lamps look fab. As a newbie to DIY can you tell me, do you have to use any special type of primer when spraying over cermaics like these lamp bases - i have a couple to do, and can't wait to start, but want to make sure i use the right product.
ReplyDeleteJane in NZ
Hi Jane. I used primer in a spray can. I suppose any would do as long as the label shows that it will cover the surface you are painting. Good luck to you.
ReplyDelete-Rene
Beautiful! I love it that you are revamping and reusing!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Oh! Very nice, you are inspiring me to go out and do a little thrifting myself, I need new lamps in my bedroom. When I moved from Seattle to CA, didn't think my bf would appreciate my "girly" lamps, so need to figure out something in between that we both like.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
Love the lamp makeover, they are faublous, really. I was here yesterday reading and taking in your beautiful living room but got pulled away before I could comment.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to move things around all the time. I on the other hand freak out if something gets moved a bit. Maybe its because our house is small and everything seems to fit one way.
Wow, you put
ReplyDeletemy lamp re-do
to shame! THIS
is truly amazing....
For some reason,
I'm very intimidated
by spray paint....
Not sure why,
but I really am!
So, BRAVO,
they look GREAT!
xx Suzanne
they look so great! love that detail along the top of the base.
ReplyDeleteRenee, they look great! I like them w/the shorter harp. And, who knew about hammered gold spray paint?? So cool! I'm probably the last one to know about this.
ReplyDeleteI believe the red shades I got from Walmart last week are the very same ones, just a different color. My, what a wonderful duo you have now that they're painted! You're right, the smaller harps did the trick.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
