Save the Ta-tas

Training is well under way with my 3-day group that I told you about here.  Our group hits the road around 5:30am and we walk around 7 or 8 miles.  When we first begin, it is pitch black outside.  My friend Stephanie wears a little red flashing light that in December would be mistaken for Rudolph, but it makes us more visible and provides comic relief.  A funny thing happened yesterday morning as three of us were walking.  A car filled with young adults rolled down the window and yelled, "Save the ta-tas".

As we continued to walk, we began to wonder how the passengers inside the car knew what we were doing,  why we were walking.  How did they know we were training for a breast cancer walk?  Did they know someone who had been touched by the disease?  Was it their mother?  Funny how the minds works, because as we walked we continued to come up with different scenarios that would explain their knowing.

To those of you who have made a donation, thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Without your help, none of this would be possible.  My personal goal is to raise $2300 and I am currently at $315.  If you would like to make a donation, go hereNo amount is too small.

Several of you have given me names of loved ones who are either battling breast cancer or have lost the battle.  If you would like to add a name, please let me know.

I am walking for:

Arin
Mamie
Kathleen
Jane
Marion
Jan

So, what are your plans for the weekend?
I see a lazy river in my future and maybe a thrift store or three.
Enjoy yourself.

  1. good for you, renee! are you doing the one in DC? i wanted to but my husband is away that weekend, and there is only so far you can walk with a 3 yr old and 5 yr old in tow. ;) i lost my grandmother to breast cancer, and had 2 friends in high school who lost their moms. that's what really breaks my heart. and i couldn't help thinking of those gals on my wedding day, when i was lucky to have my mom there to help me, and my dad there to walk me down the aisle. i thought of those girls who when their day came they wouldn't have their moms to help them plan it, giggle with them, and cry with them. it just breaks my heart. anyhow, on a lighter note, enjoy your weekend- sounds nice and restful. and way to go, save the ta-tas!

  3. Cassie, if you would like for me to add their names, let me know. I am so thankful to have my mother with me still. They say that no matter how much time you spend with your parents, when they are gone, it is never enough.

  4. Wow Rene! Good for you! What a great cause and how weird that someone would yell that out the window! I did a couple of walks in our town a while ago and it was so amazing to see all the people that were and are being affected by breast cancer just in our small town. My grandma and aunt had breast cancer but unfortunetly they both passed away. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say thank you for what you are doing!
I hope that you get to see the river and the thrift stores this weekend!! Have a good one!

  7. My goodness, how wonderful. You are so right, no matter how much time we have with our parents it just isn't enough. Are you feeling thinner and more fit? That is a lot of miles three times a week. Good for you. I wish you all the very best.
