Break the Glass

A while back, I blogged about wishing for a lantern to hang at the top of stairs.  It seems that I might be in luck...

Before
The other day, my friend Sherry from the blog, Design Indulgence, posted a great before and after of this lantern.  She had given it to a friend and I'm pretty sure that she wants it back now.

After

After a coat of black paint and knocking out the glass, this is what it looks like.  Thank you Sherry.  You have opened a whole new world for me.

  1. I have been dying to transform one of those terrible brass chandeliers! What an awesome transformation.

  2. That would be perfect. My lantern from CSN--that I also plan on spraying--arrived yesterday. When it will actually get hung is another story. . .

  3. Rene, I love the new look of the pendant light! Very upscale. And who knew that there was a very fethching light under all that glass!
I have a light or two that could use this treatment!

  16. I was just at the Habitat store in Winston Salem today and they had a bunch but my husband swears the glass can't be removed its sottered in.

I was arguing so bad that we should just try it. This is exactly what I was going to do.

I am sneaking back there tomorrow, now that I've seen another lantern makeover.

Thanks for checking out my gumball machine.

  23. OK, Sherry has mentioned several times how she wants that light back. Since it is hanging in my dining room, I feel the need to change my locks and turn off ALL the lights!! I am so lucky she changes her decor almost as frequently as she changes her undergarments! I am the lucky recipient of many a cast off! Wouldn't the world be a better place if we all had a can of black and white spray paint? We could make America beautiful....one little out dated piece at a time! Love your blog Rene! Denise

  25. Ok, Sherry keeps mentioning how much she wished she didn't give that lantern away!!! Since it is hanging in my dining room I feel compelled to turn off the lights pull the blinds (I got for a penny!) and change the locks!! Fortunately for me Sherry likes to change decor almost as frequently as she changes her undergarments! Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone was equipped with a can of black and white spray paint??? Great blog Rene.
