This year I am trying a different approach. Instead of scattering trees and plants in miss matched pots around the house, I have given all of the containers a coat of Krylon, Dover White. They have a new home in the sun room and are waiting on fresh sheets of moss from the mountains. I am thrilled with the way this has turned out and wish that the idea had come to me in years past.
By the way, if you are curious about house plants, but aren't sure where to begin, I found this photo gallery that has lots of answers. There is even a tutorial for using your digital camera to determine how much light your room receives.
Do you have a house plant solution or tip? I would love to hear it.

Rene, the pots look so good painted the same color and I love your sunroom.
ReplyDeleteRene, doesn't it work much better! I can relate about having to bring them in. Dropping of leaves..etc. I love the pots you painted white. Blends with all the other white (your eye is not having to jump around with colors). And grouping them together makes such a great statement. Seems like taking up less space too! You can tell I love it girl!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, your plants and pots are beautiful! I always have a couple inside.
ReplyDeleteWe will store all our outdoor plants in our basement this year. We used to store them in the utility garage at our old house. Great idea to paint everything.

Rene, I feel exactly the same, they just don't fit! I think your sunroom looks great, it's the perfect spot. Since I don't have a sunroom I've considered letting them freeze (guilt), give them away, put them in the basement laundry room...I know spring will be here before we know it and I'll wish I had them....????
ReplyDeleteOh, I've always wanted a sunroom. The pots look great!
ReplyDeleteLove your sunroom! What a fabulous space and your plants look right at home there. I like the pots all painted white. On a side note, I love the painting of your dog! Did you have a local artist paint that?
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody. Allison, the dog painting was a gift that came from an artist found on ebay. Weimaraners are our favorite breed and we just love the painting.

I think your plants look great in your sunroom---I wish I had one!! I have never bought plants that have to come in because I have this one ficus tree that I had for years and it is barely alive. I have placed it in every room possible to see if it did better and it just keeps dropping leaves. Good luck with all of your plants!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, Rene!
ReplyDeleteNow, if I could just
figure out how to
make my orchids rebloom....!
Love your sun porch
and wish I had one : )!
xx Suzanne
Oh Rene!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your sunroom!
I just know those plants are going to be so HAPPY in that sunny corner!
And let me just say...
I LOVE the white pots!!!!!!!!!
What a grand idea!
xo
Keeping them alive...that is the challenge!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! The pots look really pretty in your sun room! I know what you mean during the winter months that things seem to get a little more 'cozy'. I love the feeling at first but come about January I start to feel claustrophobic :)
ReplyDeleteRene,
ReplyDeleteYour pots look really great all painted the same color!
Blessings,
Linda
I love your sunroom! I'm afraid I'm no help with the plants; my mom had a green thumb, but I guess it's not hereditary.
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT idea!!! They look great!
ReplyDeleteThese are all so beautifully taken care of. To me, I think the Dover White on all the pots make the greenery all stand out the more. Beautiful plants.
ReplyDeleteRene - what a great idea! Dover White to the rescue again! I love my houseplants - but you are so right - the pots are always a problem and never seem to fit in.
