By the way, when I say "we" sometimes it means me, and sometimes it means Mr. This time, we means me ;)

Love this look, but I would never get up from the table if the chairs were this comfortable.

My Home Ideas
This is probably my favorite photo for several reasons. I want to go darker on the walls and possibly go white below the chair rail. By the way, have you ever added panel molding to the bottom of your walls? Let's talk. Also, I really dig the broad stripe on the end chairs and could see painting all of the chairs glossy white and covering the seats with a bold stripe.

Traditional Home
I just saw this on Courtney's blog the other day and love the clean look.

I have had this image in my inspiration folder for a while now. I don't know if it is the striped rug or the green candle sticks that draw me in, but gosh I love it.

So here is what we have. Please overlook the circa 1980 Laura Ashley fabric and funky green paint. That will be the first thing to go. A coat of glossy white and a broad stripe will bring these chairs back to life, no? I can't wait to get started.
Ballard
After all is said and done, there is still room in the budget for a rug. Do any of you have this one from Ballard?

Very exciting, Rene!! Love all your ideas esp. the darker walls and the bold striped fabric on the chairs! I'm sure whatever you end up doing it'll look amazing. That photo w/the striped rug and green candlesticks is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspirations! Looking forward to watching what you do with the room, I got a kick out of your "we" explanation.
ReplyDeleteJanell
HA! We have a saying, "we, this time meaning you honey". Usually it depends on whether or not tools are involved.

Rene, dear, paneling walls is really easy if you have a miter saw and basic carpentry skills. I've done it more than once and I'll be happy to talk you through it. You know how to get hold of me.

Loving the chairs Rene, they are going to be fabulous when you're done with them! I have an indoor/outdoor rug from Ballards in front of my kitchen sink and I LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteI love when the head dining chairs don't match the rest of the set. I think it makes the whole room more personal. I will be curious to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteLove your inspiration photos - love the chairs too! I have made my own wainscot before- a couple of different kinds and different times- I am planning on adding some to my sitting/laundry/what is it room soon actually. Feel free to email me if you would like- I'd be happy to help! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like you've got some beautiful ideas for the room! Can't wait to see how it turns out :) PS. That first photo is my #1 dining room inspiration photo! Those navy walls are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteRene, I'm loving that one with the striped chair - and I'm counting on you to do something fun with paint and a slipcover! The photo right below that has an amazing open hutch against the wall - oh I love that. *sigh* it's fun to dream! Can't wait to see what you do with your table and chairs - I'm living vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! The stripped chair has your name all over it! :) The rugs from Ballard are beautiful! I can't wait to see what you do with everything!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of the two end chairs being different from the rest. I love several of those dining rooms- the one with the green candle sticks is amazing. totally makes me want to re-do, she says in hushed tones so the husband wont hear her, my dining room. Can't wait to see how you pull it all together!
ReplyDeleteAll of your inspiration pics are wonderful. I love the two wing chairs at the end of the table. My daughter did this and it is so stunning. Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspiration pics....love the chairs too! Can't wait to see how the room turns out :o)

Can so identify w/your "we" definition. Love the chairs and your plans for the stripes. My dining room is a dark brown (BM North Creek Brown) and I love it in both the winter and summer.
ReplyDeleteI think your vision for your dining room is going to come together beautifully! I can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
I love mis-matched chairs at table... I'm sure it will look fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm loving the idea of a bold stripe on the chairs. The room's going to look amazing! Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how your chairs turn out! white paint abd updated fabric will definitely do the trick. i love that room with the white chairs and the gray and white striped end chairs- wow!
ReplyDeleteWhere to begin! Love the "we" explanation. Those broad stripes are amazing. I am toying with having two chairs be different as well. Maybe I will follow what you do! We did do paneling, but cheated and had someone else do it {rare in this house!}.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many options in dinning rooms theses days it's amazing. I think your chairs will look fantastic painted up. I like your plan and can't wait to see it all completed. Happy Painting.
ReplyDeleteI added beadboard to my bathroom walls last winter and love the looks. I installed them a little higher than chairrail height since I like that looks but it was super easy - painting took the longest I think.
I love the second room. I'm trying to convince my husband that we *need* new chairs. He's not really buying into my fabulous idea ... yet. Hey, we have the same "we" in our home :)
ReplyDeleteJo
Pretty! Your first choice is my favorite also, but I heart green candlesticks! ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you will be busy. Sounds like a great plan and can't wait to see the results.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the "finished product". I know it will be beautiful! I love those rugs from Ballard and have actually been thinking of ordering one for my dining room.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are doing this because I need some ideas. I have been thinking about changing out our dining room table and chairs. I haven't mentioned this to hubby yet. The chairs are just so wide and take up space. But I do like that my table gets really long. Hmmm, maybe just new chairs. Anyway, I can't wait to see what you do! I love the wide stripes.
ReplyDeleteI like those green candles too! Classy and fun at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI like the last photo the best too... but I am a green girl :)
ReplyDeleteLove the second picture - the warm paint color with white woodwork, dark table, mixing the chairs, and of course, those stripes!
ReplyDeleteNow that The Traveling Door sale is over for a while I am getting caught up on blog reading and making a few comments. My thoughts are starting to drift back to house and decor. Great minds must think alike because I have been entertaining these mixed chairs also. Gotta love the unexpected.
