Thanks for the comments yesterday about the letter to Santa. I thought you might like to know that on the way to the breakfast table yesterday morning, Parker mumbled under his breath, "I sure hope Santa saw the letter." Deep down inside, I think we all would like to keep the magic going forever.
Here is a little project that I finished last week. I wanted something festive for the dining room table during the holidays so I painted these containers with a coat of white and filled them with fresh cypress. Talk about easy - does this really count as a "project"?
The needlepoint table runner is one that Mom made and I adore it. I'm really loving the way it looks with the new chairs. Normally our dining room isn't so fancy, but if there was ever a time to turn up the fancy dial, it would be around Christmas.
School has been canceled today because we received a dusting of snow. That is how it is here in the South - like it or not. Actually, I love snow days...

The greenery looks great! Enjoy your snow day!

I just read yesterdays post and I see you kids are blessed with your same sense of humor :) And...yes it does count as a project since you changed the color of something. I consider putting on makeup as a project.....but thats me.
ReplyDeleteOH yeah...I am going to try to get a little Christmas decorating done this week...hardly seems worth it now though :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteFestive and yet simple:):)
Oh how I wish school was canceled here!! But 2 more days and we're off for the winter break! YEAH:)
Sherry, you crack me up :)

I love the white chairs with the darker furniture! Beautiful needlepoint runner too! I count it as a Chrismas project...you painted something and made it pretty!
ReplyDeleteRene, looking good. You and I did the same thing. Painted the container white and filled it with cypress.
ReplyDeleteHa! Did you do it too Kim? Great minds :)

Oh, snow days are so fun! And all it takes is a dusting? Maybe I really should move there! Your dining room looks great with the new chairs and all the contrasts and the sparkly chandelier.
ReplyDeletelooks great!
ReplyDeleteCypress, I love it! Your urns look fabulous, as does the runner. Very festive! Your dining room is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWe have to get a LOT of snow before anything get's canceled here. The plows are out nonstop so we have no excuses. Sigh...
Looking forward to your party!
XO,
Jane
I love the cypress and yes it is a project, you had to get out supplies! :) It looks really pretty and something that you can use through the winter or however long the cypress lasts! :) The table runner is so pretty, your mom did a great job! !Have a fun snow day!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you are keeping the magic going in your house. I remember one year when I was 18 my mom asked me if she could put my gifts uder the tree before Christmas morning. I was so upset that she would even ask such a thing:) Your dining room is gorgeous! Love the greens on the table!
ReplyDeleteRene, one of my favorite things about how you decorate your house is that you use things that are meaningful - like your dad's furniture. I love that your mom made that runner and you enjoy it and incorporate it into your stylish home! It does look great in there with the chair fabric. You have the magic touch!
ReplyDeleteLooks so fresh and festive, Rene! Love it!

Yes it definitly counts as a project and looks great! AND I wish we had a snowday...something about laying around in my pajamas today would have been nice:)
ReplyDeleteour schools are getting out an hour early as it is lightly snowing here- we're supposed to get two inches.
ReplyDeletethat runner is just beautufil and makes a nice statement with the red in it. so nice to have something special like that on your table. and i for one would love to believe in the magic of christmas. do you watch glee? if so, the christmas episode was awesome when coach beast does something lovely and does it anonymously.. just goes to show the magic of christmas does exist, and we can bring it to each other and complete strangers.
Cassie, I do watch Glee - record them & watch when we can. Can't wait to see that episode. Coach definitely has a soft side, especially after the episode with her sister.

Your dining room looks great! Wish it snowed over here in So.California! As a kid I would've loved it if school was canceled do to the snow! :)

p.s. I have a little giveaway over at http://www.ariannabelle.blogspot.com
Um, YES, for normal people that counts as a project. ;)
ReplyDelete(And did you see my Christmas story post today? It's my favorite Christmas story ever. http://katandgray.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-story.html) :)
Rene,
ReplyDeleteYou got to love white paint and the containers with the greens look beautiful with your chairs! I've been behind on my reading and just read about the Santa letter! I think that is awesome! Maddie (13yrs) asked it "Santa" could hide the presents this year and have clues under the tree for them. Christmas just brings out the kid in all of us! I love it :)
Hope your week is wonderful and warm!
Wendy
Looking good! I'm with sherry: anytime you change something and make it look fantastic that's a project!

Hello Rene,
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I like the simplicity of the white urns and fresh greenery. The runner your mother made is very pretty.

I am so far behind on my blog reading. I have been seeing these recent posts but must have missed the chairs. Surely you posted about those chairs. I will be adding them to my faves images folder for sure. :) I am crazy about them and would love to copy that look.
ReplyDeleteLove love love it.
Pam
Love your color palette! A friend of mine teaches in Atlanta, she's from Boston, so she thought it was very amusing that school was canceled today!
ReplyDeleteHooray! Hope you played
ReplyDeleteand had a blast. Love
the runner your mom
made; looks so pretty
with your painted containers
and the fresh greens : )

I think your table looks great. And yes, if spray paint is involved - then it is absolutely a "project"!
ReplyDeleteI love your dining room, Rene! That chandelier is so gorgeous! How sweet to have your mom's runner on your table. What a labor of love needlepoint is. The touch of red in your room is wonderul and so fun with your striped chairs. I caught Santa putting presents under the tree when I was about 8 but played along until I was 14 or so. I wanted that magic to continue and also not ruin it for my younger sister. Christmas is a magical time for all - young and old!
ReplyDeleteYou bet it counts as a project. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! The project is so easy to do and turned out really pretty. Enjoy the lovely weekend, Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteThe needlepoint runner your mom made is beautiful, and I love the fresh greens you topped your table with.
ReplyDeleteWe had a snow day yesterday too, and even though my kids are no longer in school, I still love a good old fashioned snow day when everything is still and quiet for a change!
Kat :)
