Yesterday Mr. took the boys out to the country to play and I stayed behind to get a few things done.
While I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, one thing I am trying to make more of an effort with it to use some of our nicer things every day. The truth is that I cook dinner every night and over the years I have inherited several sets of china and various pieces of silver.
My Sunday was spent rearranging the butler's pantry and polishing silver hoping to really use what we have instead of resorting to the same old boring every day china. We'll see.
Also, Christin from Simplified Bee posted yesterday about a free calendar download.
I chose this one, but there are many to chose from. To read more, go here. This calendar is cute, but I really need a personal assistant to keep up with my busy family. Does anyone know where the free download is for that?
Have a great week!

Rene, I love your new touches!! I wish I had a butler pantry - that is a must have for our new house! BTW, what do you use to polish your silver?? I need to do that and (having never done it before) I'm not sure what is considered a good brand? Or does it really matter??
ReplyDeleteWoW! What a wonderful batch of dishes and a fabulous place to keep them. Everyone should be so lucky. Sherron
ReplyDeleteFran, I am currently using Weinman, but often I use baking soda. I like BS because it doesn't turn my fingers black. Also, I have been swindled into buying those metal things that you put in the bottom of the sink and add detergent to. They don't work.

I truly am inspired by your "resolution' to use your good stuff more on a daily basis. Thanks for that.

Um, could you please tell Sherry my last name starts w/ a C? :)
ReplyDeleteProductive days, I love them! The pantry looks great and the pillow is darling. I have never cost compared, but The Company Store also sells down pillow inserts and they occasionally have sales, check them out:

Rene, I love butler's pantrys. Such a great place for storage. So sweet of Sherry to send you that pillow. I found the best and easiest silver cleaner that smells good, too. Carbona wipes. You get 20 wipes for around four dollars and one goes a long way. Just pull one out and wipe it all over the piece and it gets all sudsy and then rinse and dry. Works like a dream.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim. Can you get those at the grocery store? Sounds like a must try.

So glad that you had a chance to get a few things done, snow days are great but you are right, nothing gets done. I love your silver and all your dishes, so beautiful! That little pillow is perfect for you, that was so sweet of Sherry! Thanks for the calendar link. Have a wonderful day!!
ReplyDeletei love that butler's pantry!!! i want one of those sooooo badly! but i guess in the 1970's they didn't make them in split foyers so much. :)

What a beautiful gift! So thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big proponent of not saving your 'good stuff' - who is more special than your family?? And, it takes my boring dinners up a notch! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice gift!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people would like the free download for the personal assistant. :-) Hope you have a great week, Rene...
I love snow days because all the laundry in the house gets done. The projects... not so much. Looks like you made good use of your time. The pillow is perfect for you. What a thoughtful gift.
ReplyDeleteNot sure that any download will help this girl but thank you!
Have a good one! :)
I am so envious of your beautiful china! :) I have one set of "mid-range" china (for lack of a better term) that my Nannie didn't want anymore, but no silver. Maybe someday. You have everything arranged so nicely. :)
ReplyDeleteTo je krásné...
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! I am sure you are inspiring others to get organized.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked the Chervon calendar too! Many thanks for the mention.

Good for you. I was thinking about getting rid of a colorful set of dishes I have and brining the china within reach. What are we waiting for, right!!! :)
ReplyDeleteRene...I am so glad you liked it...and I wish somebody would take my life to the country for the day so I could stay behind and get organized :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty! I'm right there with you on the snow days- gosh I'm tired of them already!
ReplyDeleteRene, Your butlers pantry is wonderful with all the white dishes. I love your new pillow.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
I envy you your Butler's Pantry! And it is nice to use your things -- they're to use not hide behind cupboard doors!
ReplyDeleteAnd you have some lovely things and I love that pillow!
Your dishes are beautiful, and I've always loved the idea of a butlers pantry. I looked at a house once that had one in it and have wanted one ever since.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of Sherry! I love the pillow. I also love your butler's pantry. I'm with you on trying to use some of our nicer things each day. I tend to keep them saved for company. Why not use them and make us feel special each day! I was visiting my in-laws in New Mexico over the weekend and made your s'mores hot chocolate. We all voted that it is indeed the world's best hot chocolate. Thank you for your recipe.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the most splendid way to spend a cold day! I always feel like a new person after cleaning out cabinets and sometimes I even find a piece I forgot about :)
ReplyDeletei love this, rene! i need to do my shelves over and this is good inspiration......i've been away from the blog world lately. my computer has been out of commission. i'm back now though...can't wait to catch up!
ReplyDeleteI think your resolution is spot on. I can't tell you the last time I used my wedding china. You think tonight's frozen pizza is reason enough?
ReplyDeleteThat's the best free calendar download - thank you so much for sharing. Off to score one of my own!
