Butler's Pantry, Thank You Sherry, & a Free Calendar

Finally, a week of working from home and no snow days.  I don't know about you, but as much as I love snow days and having the kids home, I don't seem to get a thing done,  well other than cooking and cleaning the kitchen constantly.  Last week I had a work assignment that required me to be away from the house most of the week.  Now a new week awaits and I can't wait to get started on some new projects.

Yesterday Mr. took the boys out to the country to play and I stayed behind to get a few things done.

While I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, one thing I am trying to make more of an effort with it to use some of our nicer things every day.  The truth is that I cook dinner every night and over the years I have inherited several sets of china and various pieces of silver.

My Sunday was spent rearranging the butler's pantry and polishing silver hoping to really use what we have instead of resorting to the same old boring every day china.  We'll see.

On another note, this beautiful pillow arrived in the mail yesterday.  Sherry from Design Indulgence sent it to me.  She wanted me to have it because of the "Z".  Wasn't that sweet?  Thank you Sherry!  I love it!  Now I just need to get a down insert from Crate & Barrel.  Sherry is having a fun little giveaway on her blog so go check it out.

Also, Christin from Simplified Bee posted yesterday about a free calendar download.

I chose this one, but there are many to chose from.  To read more, go here.  This calendar is cute, but I really need a personal assistant to keep up with my busy family.  Does anyone know where the free download is for that?

Have a great week!

  1. Rene, I love your new touches!! I wish I had a butler pantry - that is a must have for our new house! BTW, what do you use to polish your silver?? I need to do that and (having never done it before) I'm not sure what is considered a good brand? Or does it really matter??

  3. Fran, I am currently using Weinman, but often I use baking soda. I like BS because it doesn't turn my fingers black. Also, I have been swindled into buying those metal things that you put in the bottom of the sink and add detergent to. They don't work.

  6. Productive days, I love them! The pantry looks great and the pillow is darling. I have never cost compared, but The Company Store also sells down pillow inserts and they occasionally have sales, check them out:

  7. Rene, I love butler's pantrys. Such a great place for storage. So sweet of Sherry to send you that pillow. I found the best and easiest silver cleaner that smells good, too. Carbona wipes. You get 20 wipes for around four dollars and one goes a long way. Just pull one out and wipe it all over the piece and it gets all sudsy and then rinse and dry. Works like a dream.

  14. I'm a big proponent of not saving your 'good stuff' - who is more special than your family?? And, it takes my boring dinners up a notch! :)

  17. I am so envious of your beautiful china! :) I have one set of "mid-range" china (for lack of a better term) that my Nannie didn't want anymore, but no silver. Maybe someday. You have everything arranged so nicely. :)

  24. I envy you your Butler's Pantry! And it is nice to use your things -- they're to use not hide behind cupboard doors!

And you have some lovely things and I love that pillow!

  25. Your dishes are beautiful, and I've always loved the idea of a butlers pantry. I looked at a house once that had one in it and have wanted one ever since.

  26. How sweet of Sherry! I love the pillow. I also love your butler's pantry. I'm with you on trying to use some of our nicer things each day. I tend to keep them saved for company. Why not use them and make us feel special each day! I was visiting my in-laws in New Mexico over the weekend and made your s'mores hot chocolate. We all voted that it is indeed the world's best hot chocolate. Thank you for your recipe.
