I live in a cottage neighborhood filled with homes mostly built in the 1930's. All of the houses share a similar original floor plan and over the years younger families have moved in and added their "touch" to make them a little different from the rest. One thing that hasn't really changed about our homes is the lack of a grand foyer - well, any foyer really. A few of the lucky ones have slightly larger entries, but not grand by any stretch.
This is what our "foyer" looked like a year ago.
Then I added the happy tape.
What we really needed in this space was a tiny, and I do mean tiny table. A place for keys, mail, and maybe a pretty flower to greet us. I took a table from another part of the house and gave it a fresh coat of BM Black left over from the bathroom. The other day at Hobby Lobby I found these knobs. They also had knobs with initials, but according to Hobby Lobby, the alphabet ends with "y" and I needed a "z". There were lots of other great knobs there too if you are in the market for hardware.
Sometimes I like unexpected proportions like large over small. I thought it was a fun way to bring Dad's mirror into the present.

Every post i'm clicking lately is someone doing something fabulous with paint. This looks darling - and i'm still loving those stripes too!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm really going to have to get off of my duff and paint the hall bath vanity before i'm left in blog dust LOL! (Just need to get over the fear of screwing it up)
LOVE that mirror! It's so different.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a party going on if you'd like to stop by!

I love the tape so much! Your foyer is cute!!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!!~ I love the unexpected....Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love the tape paint application!
ReplyDeleteRene, I loved the TV post and link ups. It was fun to see everyone's ideas of blending the TV into their decor. Your entry looks so pretty - the table gives it a bit more of a "foyer" feel. {I have that same Trader Joe's bag in the first pic. I feel like you could live next door!} Have a great weekend! Lisa
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job. I like that you put the coats out of sight. I LOVE your happy tape. We have a double story entrance but practically no foyer as the space flows into the living and dining rooms. I have one tiny corner and am hoping to add a tiny table like yours.
ReplyDeleteI love the harlequin , is it really tape? What the heck is happy tape? I'm so behind! the light fixture looks awesome! you could do a hole post on that alone. Nicely done!
ReplyDelete{now you've got me itchin to post about where my tv is, I hope i get it done by tomorrow}

Darling! You have done a wonderful job of creating a welcoming spot for your family and friends into your home. Our old house was a small Cape Cod with no foyer, so we created one by adding a sofa table behind the couch and near the door. I now have a real foyer and it was a big reason we chose the house we did.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week-end!
Cathy
The mirror is wonderful...off to check out your etsy shop!

Your foyer looks so great, Rene. I am really in love with the shape of that mirror too. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the foyer now. Loved it with the bench too. What is happy tape and how does it work? It looks very cool.
ReplyDeleteoh i love it! my foyer is waaaaay smaller and less grand and we are alway sbumping into each other trying to get out the door. it's ridiculous! i love what you did here to give it a bing in style! awesome!
ReplyDeleteYour foyer looks fabulous. Love the wall treatment and the table and mirror are just perfect. Beautiful accessories also. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLove your updates! I'm always fascinated when people create an entrance, even when there's no real foyer.
ReplyDeleteThe foyer was cute before, but I'm loving the after! Love the taped harlequin design! The mirror looks great, too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe also have a "no-entry
ReplyDeleteentry" and I've tried
to define the space with
a few key pieces. I
love what you have done
with yours. You could
even do a small chest
with drawers if you wanted
extra storage. I have
been looking for one but
it is hard to find them
really narrow....
Happy Weekend!
xx Suzanne
PS: It's gloomy here
today, but I will try
to get a tv pic....
Thanks ya'll. Suzanne, I have been on the hunt for a narrow chest for another space and they are very hard to find. I want something old.

It looks really pretty Rene. We do not have a foyer or much of anything either. I love the table and the mirror above it as well, I think it looks perfect there. And the paper whites are so pretty...come on Spring!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you have a wonderful weekend!!
Beautiful, Rene.
ReplyDeleteI love the happy tape, and your foyer arrangement is beautiful.
Have a nice weekend.

I can relate with now grand foyer so I so appreciate this. It looks fantastic. Cracking up about the alphabet ending in y. And congrats on your Etsy shop going so well. Proud of you.
ReplyDeleteyour foyer really is so welcoming. if i lived closer i would just come knock on your door and check it out myself! i have always loved that wall...and the knob, mirror, and letter opener add such personal finishing touches!
ReplyDeleteI love that mirror! Your entry looks very inviting. I need to get to mine -it's so bad right now.
ReplyDeleteYour little table is perfect, and aren't all those knobs at Hobby Lobby fun. Makes you want to find a piece to redo just so you can use them! I love your mail slot, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very cool mirror! It looks fantastic over the table. We really have no foyer...the door just opens into the living room. I keep a large basket there for shoes and boots {and I spend a lot of time putting coats away!}. Who would make a layout like this? You have to love old quirky homes!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
That looks just perfect Rene! I also love that it is slightly unexpected to have the smaller proportioned table underneath that beautiful mirror. It really does make it feel more like a true entry and as usual you added just the right touches! :-) Come visit our new blog today if you get a chance and enter to win a $25 Overstock gift card!

Looks great, love the cute table!

Your foyer is beautiful, Rene. The little table is perfect for that spot with the mirror above it. I went into a Hobby Lobby for the first time while I was visting my in-laws a couple weeks ago. I don't have one where I live. Lot of great things! I popped in your Etsy store yesterday and discovered a little treasure!
ReplyDeleteRene I feel your 'cramp' in the foyer size issue. I too have about 4x6 from front door to stairwell with closet exactly like you. Makes for a real challenge but you've tackled it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteWell the "happy tape" sure would make me happy. I have a foyer of not so grand proportions too. Even worse because where you have happy tape I have a coat closet. No room whatsoever! Ahh, the things I gladly trade in the name of added charm! :) Have a lovely weekend, Rene!!
ReplyDeletexo, Tessa
I love the little table!
ReplyDeleteit looks so beautiful. i think it's the perfect entry!
ReplyDeleteFun!
ReplyDeleteit looks fabulous Rene! I can't believe that is tape... you are so clever. I just love it and the table is perfect. I have found that by putting a table as you did in a space it gives it "importance" and in effect makes the whole space feel larger... wonderful job!
ReplyDeletehappy weekend!
Your foyer might be tiny ~ but it sure is MIGHTY fine!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Love,
Susan and Bentley

I love your foyer....you've done wonders with it....it's tiny, but you've made it the best that it can be!!! I'm not sure if you added wall paper or did a stencil..but it's fabulous!
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect little table! I love your little foyer, so very stylish! Our front door opens right into the living room, why would someone build a house like that?
ReplyDeleteYour foyer looks fabulous. Your wall looks wonderful and your table and mirror perfect. I would love to know more about Happy Tape.
ReplyDeleteTape...really...it is so straight? So funny how we all just keep updating spaces! It's like I walk around my house pondering what to do next!! I love the white on the black table with a little green in it......I have been doing so much for my friends lately that all of my projects are NOT getting done.
ReplyDeleteI think It's really charming and the mirror makes it feel grand.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a home with an open floor plan and one of those fairly large entries that are really nothing more than a wasted opportunity for more livable space. Instead, it's another area to decorate that no one really spends time in.
How lucky you are to live in a cottage amongst other ones too!
ReplyDeleteLove your foyer, you did such a great job on it!
I think it looks super cute!!! Lucky you to live in an old cottage!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful. We also have a small home built in 1932 and are planning to board and batten the entry and add a fun little light fixture...work with the space you have and be proud of it!
ReplyDeleteNice punch you add to the wall. The table is just perfect for the spot!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! Dropping by from Met Monday. I hope you'll come see DD2's dining room redo.

Great wall treatment and a wonderful little table and mirror. Very welcoming entry!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't need to be large to be perfectly delicious! And, you have done that in your foyer.
ReplyDeleteLovin' the little black table and your dad's mirror.
Rhonda
Oh I love your "happy tape" And I have a question. The little black table, I have one just like it, so similar and I've never seen another like it. Only, mine has a hole in the top, for an ashtray and a sort of handle over the top, it's supposed to be a smoking table. Do you know anything about that and did your table used to have a hole? I love it and it's so unique, thanks for sharing!
