The Furniture Market Clothing Quandary

It's that time again.  The furniture market starts this week in High Point which means that over the next few days I am going to be digging deep into my closet to come up with outfits.  I simply cannot justify purchasing clothes to wear for a few days when most days I remain in my gym clothes until 9PM.

Me, Thom Filicia, friend - taken last spring with a cell phone

Just as a side note, Thom Filicia has to be the nicest man I have ever met (except for you honey).  Seriously, no matter how busy he is he always takes the time to speak and pose for a picture.  Love that!

Back to clothing.  If money were no object, I would gladly pick up a few things to get me through the work week...and here they are.

2 Questions for you:

Do you read clothing blogs?  If so which ones?
Do you purchase clothes in thrift stores?

OK maybe that is 3 questions.

  1. Oh you met Thom! So jealous! Love all your clothing choices, Rene. I would totally borrow your wardrobe ;-) if you had it! I don't read clothing blogs. But like you, I'm in love with Boden. Have fun in High Pt!

  2. I read a few design blogs that incorporate fashion in with home decor. i.e. if this fashion look were a room, etc. But I don't read any straight clothes blogs.

I've bought clothes at thrift stores, before. Usually it's a size 24 bridesmaid dress for the ridiculous amt of taffetta yardage for something like $5. I don't generally buy clothes for myself from thrift stores, though.

  3. Yes, I subscribe to You Look Fab, and no, I don't buy clothes in thrift stores although I do buy things for my home there.

  4. And of course, rain in the forecast for Friday. I know it doesn't officially start then, but HP's full of outta town plates, now! Have fun! Going in for work Friday to IHFC. I know you'll look great no matter what!

  5. Good morning :)
It's funny...i go out of my way to avoid blogs about fashion. Not my thing. BUT...i adore those "What I Wore Wednesday" posts that so many home bloggers do. It inspires to actaully get out of my running clothes during the week.

Also...even though i hate fashion blogs...i LOVE that one pager in SL or BHG where they take the mom/daughter and showcase their style side by side - I LOVE that. go figure.

And yes, i do thrift store vintage here. i love a hunt.

  6. I always angst about clothes when going to an event, and did purchase clothes at thrift stores when in college, haven't since. I follow a few clothing blogs, this being one, it's down to earth, realistic!

Have a great time at the market! Janell

  7. Maybe I will see you Laurie. Sheri, I like that section in SL too!

I do read clothing blogs and they are finding some mighty cute filler pieces in thrift stores. Might be worth a try.

  8. Thanks Janell! Yes, I read that one too.

  9. I obsess about clothes too, and wish I could manage that "I just threw this on, but look so pulled together look." I probably should follow some fashion blogs, but don't. My sister gets great things at thrift stores all the time...thinking I might hire her to do my dirty work, and get me some fab stuff!

Have a great week at market. You look great with Tom in the photo.

  10. I do not follow fashion blogs. When I was younger I subscribed to every fashion magazine on the planet and I follwed the rules strictly.
These days I set my own style. I buy at thrift stores and Nordstrom mostly.
There are so many high end consignment stores out there. It's amazing how many items are new! I surmise they were gifts that were not appreciated and subsequently sent to consignment!

  11. So jealous that you met Thom!!! I would have been giggling non stop!
I used to read fashion blogs and now I can't even remember the name of the one I liked the most :(
I rarely find any thrifted clothes that I like, but I have gotten lucky with a few sweaters in the past. I'm usually too distracted by the home goods section.
Target has some really classic and timeless dresses right now. I bought a few on clearance for $10!!! Might want to give it a try!
You'll look fabulous no matter what you do!
    Have fun!

  13. Have a wonderful time Rene - I'm sure you will look fantastic, whatever you decide to wear. I do not read any strictly clothing blogs - I think because I already have too many other blogs I like to read! I haven't purchased anything in a clothing thrift store since college.

  14. No, no and no! As a matter of fact, clothing blogs aren't even on my radar. I'm sure that's surprising to some people ... like I'm surprised by people who don't read home decor blogs (or know they exist)!

  15. I think I've only found two things at GW as far as clothing goes, I don't have the patience to go thur all that clothing I guess. I follow Fab After Forty blog it's not just about clothing but skin care too so I do enjoy that.
I've bought to much for our trip to Jamaica but that's part of the fun of going on vacation! Love clothes, purses and shoes! Love all that you showed!

  18. hi. if you could see me you would know i do not read clothing blogs. i appreciate that you wear what is comfy most of the time! i do too! then panic hits when i have to be "on". i do buy the odd thing at the prev.owned place, but not most of my things. i have a midi jean pencil skirt, the nice white pants, and a couple nice tops to mix/match.they get me through a lot of situations. shoes are always a problem since i would wear clogs 24/7 if i could get away with it. i will follow closely to see how you solve this concern. jkj

  19. Aw, sounds like fun!! I used to work at the Mart in Atlanta and I know High Point is right up there with that market. SOOOO many pretty things :) Have fun!!

  20. I don't follow fashion blogs, but I do tend to stick to a certain style. I know what fits me and comes in tall. J.Crew and Banana Republic. Then, I have, tons and tons of scarves. You can throw on any basic pair of pants, some cute (comfy) shoes, a nice tailored shirt, and a scarf. Voila, you look pulled together and you didn't have to do much shopping. Good luck!

  24. Have fun at High Point. I don't read clothing blogs on a regular basis. I like to spend all of my extra money on design projects :). Hope you find some great things!

  27. I do love fashion and the design blogger's posts 'What I Wore' or (what I wish were in my closet) :) but don't read any consistently...would love to know which ones you like. I do purchase from thrift stores, it began when I took my clothes in to resell and spent the $ I made before I left the store!
