For as long as I can remember, our office has been the dumping ground for any picture waiting to be hung, or box waiting to be stored. Add the new shop into the mix, things have quickly gone from bad to worse. In order to keep my sanity and to be a bit more organized, office improvements have begun.
The shop has been so much fun for me for two reasons. I love to shop and only buy what I like AND I get to enjoy everything for a short time before someone buys it. This collection of milk glass and ceramics is actually being stored here, but looks like a collection on display. And yes, I jumped on the bandwagon and made one of those ridiculous coffee filter wreaths. I kind of like the way it looks above all of the white.
This cabinet holds fabric remnants and more shop items. I would love to paint it with a bold color like this red cabinet in this Ruthie Sommer's room.
Mr. is not too jived about this idea, but I'm still working on him ;)
This is another project that I am working on for the office inspired by this project. With all of the leftover fabric remnants I have, I simply could not justify buying more fabric without trying the permanent marker first. Sure enough it worked and the snow leopard design looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Sometimes making something from nothing is much more rewarding than going out and buying it. Now all it needs is some cork board and we will be in business.
I am on the hunt for a pretty floral for curtains in this room and don't want to spend a lot. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking that chest would look great painted too!
ReplyDeleteoh - i love the idea of painting it red. It would just make it pop. I have way too much milk glass (jadeite). It used to be in a china hutch in my last house - but in this house there is no room, so we ended up using it for everyday dishes. My mother about fell over. But you know, i am so much happier because i use a piece of it everyday now and it's not sitting behind glass.
ReplyDeleteRene, the office is going to be so pretty! I love what you did to leopard-ize the fabric. And that chest in red is going to be amazing. Keep us posted. As for cheap fabric, I am always on the lookout too, and it's hard. Lately, I am liking fabric.com and onlinefabricstore.net. Or what about buying some on-sale flat sheets and doing panels out of those. I think that was a recent Jenny post too!
ReplyDeletetell the mr i said you are right- a bright color on that piece is just what the speace needs! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I don't have to tell him Cassie. He reads the blog. Thank you for siding with me :)
ReplyDeleteThat would be such a perfect red for that cabinet, I agree. I love your permanent marker fabric. Brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteThe milk glass "collection" does look right at home in your office! :) I haven't made a coffee filter wreath yet, and I'm not even sure why b/c I do think they look pretty neat! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Rene! I thought that the fabric was snow leopard fabric. You didi a GREAT job. SUch a great idea.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your office. We all have a room like this where we store things.

Rene, I love that idea, this is one of the reasons I am painting all my walls cream ,So I can do what ever color I want... Come over a check out my egg tree... have a great weekend

Lets not talk about messes. I haven't seem my kitchen counters or table in weeks!
ReplyDeleteI could see that piece painted. I say go for it. Love those shoe prints too.
I love the idea of painting that chest a nice bright red. It'll really set off the collection of white on top nicely. Love your sharpie leopard fabric! You're so brave!
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at King sized sheets for a good floral for the drapes? I like hitting Bed, Bath & Beyond's clearance section with a 20% off coupon to get tons of yardage for pennies. You might be able to find a nice floral there. Thanks for sharing.
Love the chairs shown on Jenny's blog and I CAN'T Believe you "made" this fabric! I wouldn't have know had you not said, and I can't agree more...it is far more satisfying to try to make something than to just go out and buy it!!

Rene, Ikea has such a pretty white curtain with a very soft grey design. I want them but the grey doesn't work in my house so I want YOU to get them! They'd look fabulous with that armoire painted red! Leslie at the blog A Room Somewhere has them in her beautiful home and I couldn't believe it when she said they were Ikea. Might not be the colors you were going for but just thought I'd pass along.
ReplyDeletePS loving your coffee filter wreath and display of shop items!!
I know what you mean about one room becoming a "dumping ground". I have a weekend goal to organize our garage so I can send all those projects on the waiting list out there :) Your collection of milk glass is gorgeous. I've started a small etsy shop. Any suggestions for packing glass items so they make it in one piece?
ReplyDeletePS Great sharpie/fabric project. Can't wait to see the outcome?!
Have a great weekend!
I love your style!
ReplyDeleteDear Mister,
ReplyDeleteOne more vote for the cabinet being painted a fun color!
You did an amazing job on that fabric, it is very COOL and looks perfect with that frame.
i adore those little shoe prints hanging in the background!! those wouldn't be part of your shop too would they?? :) so amazed you drew that fabric!
ReplyDeleteI am still stuck on how clean your office is...mine..not so much! If I could clean and organize THEN I could decorate it! Shut the front door...you did not make that fabric?????
ReplyDeleteWhen I first looked at that spotted fabric I had NO idea you did that yourself, I thought it was a print! Nice job fooling me!
ReplyDeletei meant to say this earlier, just remembered...don't think I'm crazy, but i saw really gorgeous floral table clothes at home goods earlier this week. not granny florals, but fresh, up to date ones. I have no idea about dimensions and such, but I had them in my hand pondering new curtains...
ReplyDeleteLove the shoe prints and the fabric is very impressive!
ReplyDeleteJo
Your fabric is wonderuful, Rene! I would never have know that was made with permanent marker. I'm impressed! For your floral curtains maybe you could paint some pretty flowers on dropcloths. I bet you'd do a gorgeous job. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMuch nicer!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried thrift shops for drapes and sheets or tablecloths to use as drapes? I just bought a stunning pair of silk drapes on Craigslist!
oh my painted red it would be fantastic, but you know me I am all about painting things funky colors!
ReplyDeleteBTW I a fan of your blog :)

ReplyDeleteHi Rene, Our house is overrun with Etsy stuff and I havene't even opened the shop yet. I think the chest would be fabulopus painted red.

Reminds me very much of what my office looks like...well, I have the milk glass, the frame draped with fabric waiting to be made into a corkboard...but it all looks much more like your before picture, (oh, and none of it has made it onto my etsy site either!
ReplyDeleteI love your milk glass. I just blogged about mine in case you are interested. Great posting!

I love that wreath you made! I have yet to try one. I just shopped my own remnants this weekend {who knew I had so many stuffed away!} I know what you mean about it feeling so much better creating something from what you already have. Happy weekend, my friend.
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see what color you paint it --- red is a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteOOh I think that red would be beautiful! It would really bring out the color of the shoes on in the prints, you can tell him that the dresser has to match the shoes! :) I hope that changes his mind. :)
