Thank you to everyone who voted for my dining room. Odds are that I will not win, but it doesn't hurt to try - so thank you for your support. Also, thank so much to those who have tweeted and posted about the contest. I really appreciate it more than you know!
It is rainy, snowy, and unseasonably cold here in Greensboro today. The flowers in the garden are shivering, but seem to glow even brighter against the gray day that surrounds them.
This is a vine that grows over our front door. It is Clematis Armandi and is one of the only varieties that is an evergreen. Every March it blooms and the flowers give just a hint of fragrance that tells me spring is here.
Here is a picture of our front porch taken last summer. I get a lot of questions about the paint color on the door. It is Benjamin Moore, whythe blue. To prove what a small it world it is, my neighbor, who had no idea that I had a blog, googled images of blue doors and found my blog. She recognized the door and immediately emailed me. Several people have inquired about the house color too. To be honest, we have lost the paint can. So when the time comes to paint, we will have to pull a chip off the house and have it matched. As you can see, it isn't a true white, but more of a light taupe or putty.
In other news, this is the image I saw Sunday morning when I opened the shade. Apparently we were forked.
After a closer look it turns out that we were forked...and spooned...and knifed. Oh the joys of teenagers! I mean this sincerely. Being a mother of 12 and 15 year old boys is an absolute joy! I'm thinking this was pay back for rolling someone's house the previous night. This might go back and forth a few more times. Really, it is all in good fun - and fun it was.

I haven't been around in a while but I'm going to look back into your blog posts to see your dining room. I always like the things you do.
ReplyDeleteAs for the forking... that is hilarious!!!!
J.
Every time I look at your beautiful house it makes me want to paint my brick! I need to just pull the trigger and do it!
ReplyDeleteAnd oh how I remember those days of tp rolled houses, etc.! When we moved down here at the end of a private lane it became impossible for anyone to get away with those sorts of things. Between our dogs and the neighbor's dogs, even the newspaper delivery guy doesn't go unnoticed. Too funny about your forking!
Kat :)
We are getting ready to paint our house and I picked BM Stratton Blue for the door, even before I picked the house body color (which I'm still pondering). When I googled colors, your door pic came up! I love the Wythe Blue, and it looks terrific with the putty color on the house. I've added your blog to my favorites!

One time we got forked.....and small "marshmallowed", is that even a word??? I really enjoy my teenagers too!!!! Love your clematis....I have some blooming too..the front door against it is picture perfect!!! Hope you win!
ReplyDeleteYour entrance is so warm and welcoming, and the vine looks straight out of a cozy cottage! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't care what you say, there's NO way you are the mother of two teenagers!!
Rene, I love your front door and your brick stoop area!! So pretty!! How funny is the fork thing - never heard of such a thing, but then again I have a 3 year old. I definitely had my share (way back when) rolling other peoples houses - I think if I had to choose, I'd much rather get forked than rolled!! :) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteOur front door is an incredibly similar colour to yours. We chose farrow & Ball Powder Blue and I LOVE it!!! It makes me smile each time I come home.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny about your front garden being forked!!! Perhaps they were jealous of your front door colour! Haha!!
Sarahx
OH NO!!!!! Yes one of the joys of having kids, Rene your a better sport than I...LOL... And don't think you don't have a good chance of winning your room is the best one I've seen on there...good luck and let us know

The forking is hilarious! I've actually never seen that before, and I certainly wasn't an angel of a teen. Can't let WD see this though, he puts my mischief making teen years to shame.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your door color - I've always liked it. Your clematis are gorgeous! It must be so nice to enter through the fragrance. Thanks for sharing.
Oh I love it! I think it's hilarious that your neighbor had no idea and just found your door! And the yard is great. Brings back memories of cleaning up TP with my dad after the "boys" at school tagged our house!
ReplyDeleteHaving three boys I remember the TP years but never have heard of forks...neat though and less messy!
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy stopping by, love the diningroom just gorgeous!
Rondell
Good to see you have a positive outlook about the fork/spoon/knife incident! :)
ReplyDeleteOh this is hilarious! Oh to be a teenager again!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but giggle on this post!! Sorry, you got utensiled! = )))
ReplyDeleteHaha! I saw the first pic and thought, "Wow, that's a lot of crocuses in their grass!"
ReplyDeleteYour front door is beautiful, i've admired it many times online. And i love the clematis. I think it's call "Armandii"... My sister lives in Charlotte and she has the same one growing on her porch. She says it smells heavenly. I think you have every chance of winning that contest too!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Thanks for laughing along with me ya'll. Yes, Cindy, it is Armandi. I'm going to add that to the post.
ReplyDeleteWythe Blue is one of my favorite colors and it looks stupendous on your door with the clematis framing the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of "being forked" but I love it!

Rene, your forking/spooning/knifing is so so funny! I've never seen that version before! And that vine that climbs over your front door - so lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove your vine, and the fact that it has a scent is an added plus.
ReplyDeleteTeenagers, how much fun?
Thank you for sharing. We can appreciate.

Love your door, and the clematis....I wonder if it would do well a little further south?
ReplyDeleteAs for the forking, At first I thought you had pretty little white flowers all over your yard:)
I would imagine you got the better end of the stick or should I say fork, since it wasn't toilet paper:) joy, joy!
Ha! Gretchen, yes it is better to be "utensiled" than rolled on a rainy night.
ReplyDeleteAs for the vine, I believe it would do fine further south. Hardiness from zones 8-10. Aren't you in 8?
what a small world! shortly after i had emmy's birthday party, her preschool teacher found my blog somehow because she mentioned emmy's candy shop party. she was looking up blue chairs or something like that and somehow found me- isn't that crazy?
ReplyDeleteand i hope you win- you DO deserve it!
OK...I have never heard of forking! That is hilarious and when I first saw the picture before reading any further I was thinking it was something that fell from the sky. Not sure how my brain was processing after that! And one more thing...your front door is so pretty with light colored brick and the green vine...
ReplyDeleteWhat a small world! I just found your blog about a month ago and have been so enjoying it. Then last week I got a Facebook update from a friend asking me to vote for her friend's dining room in a contest - realized I had already seen it on your blog! :) I am a Greensboro girl too.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colour of your door, have just saved the details in case I should need that beautiful hue. Fingers crossed for the comp :) Nicolex
ReplyDeleteForking?! I had no idea. I still love your front door color so much! And I am jealous of your early spring. I know, I need to come south!!
ReplyDeleteI just your door color and that vine is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! I remembering doing the tping! I am sure that these wonderful things will happen to us as my daughter gets older, in fact I plan on it and you are so right, it is good clean fun and if you wash them all up you now have free plastic-ware!! :)
Thanks so much for your super sweet comments! Your door color is DIVINE:) We have been forked before too, so fun and easy to clean up. Much easier than being TP'd!!
ReplyDeleteI think you have a fabulous chance at winning!!! omg fork you already lol! Is it wrong that I wanna fork my friends' house for kicks lol!
ReplyDeleteThe vine is so lovely over your front door. It creates such a pretty entrance. Whythe blue is one of my favorite colors. I think you might win, Rene. I have a good feeling about it! You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteLove the clematis. I was just looking for some the other day. Not many out there yet.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd rather get forked then rolled!
LOVE your front porch! And that vine is gorgeous! So charming!
