Today's Special Guest: Danielle from "Danielle Oakey Interiors"

Today we have Danielle from the the blog Danielle Oakey Interiors.  I like to think of her as the room whisperer.  Seriously, Danielle has a way of making rooms sing.  Take it away Danielle!

Hi, I am Danielle from Danielle Oakey Interiors.  I am so excited to be here today and share one of my projects!

My daughter's bedroom is my favorite place in my home.  I love the way it turned out, especially because I completed the project for $370!  I can't wait to show you how it came to be...

Designing a room on a tight budget is always a lot of work.  Almost every item in the room was a thrift store find or a DIY project.  Here is how the room started out:

The headboard fabric was my inspiration.  I love the bold pattern and bright colors.  Since purchasing a headboard was not in my budget, I made one myself.  This is by far the easiest DIY project in the room, and only cost $46.

Once I got the headboard finished, I felt like it was starting to come together.  I purchased the nightstand and bookshelf cabinet from a thrift store and painted them blue.

Now I needed some art for above the bed.  I decided to make DIY silhouette animal plates.  They only cost $13 and added a fun whimsical touch to the room.

Next, it was time for the right lamp.  I purchased two brass lamps from a thrift store for $3.00 each spray painted the bases white.

I originally tried spray painting the shade as well but had no success.  I then attempted using the floral fabric on the shade but did not like it at all!

So I bought two new white shades and added black trim, they were perfect.  I also bought another nightstand from the thrift store for $10.00 and painted it blue.  I replaced the yellow mirror with four mirrors that I found at thrift store for $5.00 each.  I spray painted them black and hung them on either side of the bed.

Then I added the drapery and throw pillows.  I purchased this blue fabric and sewed the pillows and drapery myself.

I was loving the room but knew it was missing something.  One night, at about 3 am, I realized it needed black and white stripes!  The next day I taped it off and made it happen.  I used leftover black chalkboard paint for the stripes.

I think they are just what the room needed.

Oh, and emory approves too!

Thanks again for having me!

Danielle

Adding the black stripes was a brilliant idea! The fact that the idea came to you in the middle of the night makes me feel better because I do my best thinking then.  I'm pretty sure we will be seeing this room featured in a magazine.  Thanks for joining us today Danielle!

Love the fabric she used on the headboard! And I love the liberal use of black in this room - so unusual for a little girl's room, but such a nice touch! Thanks for sharing.

Love the way this room came together, and thank you, Danielle, for showing us your process (mistakes and all!)! I'm a huge fan of that headboard fabric and love all the black and white pops in the room!
