To get the full effect, I always like to see the before and after. Above is what our kitchen used to look like.
We wanted open shelving here, but haven't taken the plunge. So, as an economical and temporary fix that just might be here a while, I removed the doors and painted the background gray owl. We also finished the beadboard on this side of the sink. I still need to get the correct switch plate covers and there is some touch up painting that needs to be done.
Breakfast area before.
Breakfast area after. Not a huge change, but the color is so fresh and airy now.
From the breakfast area before.
From the breakfast area after. It finally occurred to me to paint that ugly vent the same as the wall. Much better. You can also see Rosemary there to the left. She is going to another room and side table will go in this place. Does anyone have a good shade of peacock paint you would recommend? Also, the banquette cushion needs updating and I am considering a vinyl (something that can easily be cleaned). Any suggestions?

I really like it, the beadboard looks great !! also LOVE the lights above your table !!
ReplyDeleteThe new color is great! Sometimes the littlest changes offer the biggest impact!
ReplyDeleteLoving the roller shades ... adding these to my list.
Jo
What a great update. The colour is perfect and really brightens up the space.
ReplyDeleteI'm saving the roller blind idea for an upcoming project.
your kitchen is PEEEEEEERRRRRRFECT!!!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful! i love the colors and the feel... want to come here and do my kitchen?
ReplyDeletestunning ... but I would expect nothing more from your little corner of cottage and vine!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks fabulous! I believe you can have almost any fabric coated with a vinyl covering, but that tends to be costly. What about using an outdoor fabric instead of vinyl? Probably lots more options...
ReplyDeleteCathy
Rene, it looks awesome. Those little details all really make it come together. The beadboard is great; you know I love open shelving, and the shades are so pretty! How about oilcloth or outdoor fabric for the banquette? Lots of great styles to choose from, and affordable. And for peacock paint, I used MS Plumage on my console.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautious!!! Light and airy! I love your plate wall and the rug!! Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteFor a peacock blue I use BM Majestic Blue 2051-40 or Peacock Blue 2049-40.

Beautiful Rene! I always loved your kitchen and all the new touches look fabulous! Martina
ReplyDeleteHi Rene-
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen was lovely before, but now looks updated and fresh. It is a wonderful space with lots of character. Love the shades over the table. May have to get myself one of those - gorgeous!
My best- Diane
Absolutely Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteRene, Emily Clark just finished my kitchen mood board, and the colors are so similar to yours! I love your style, obviously, and I can't wait to get started on my own kitchen. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI really like it Rene....great job!!! Take care, Caroline
ReplyDeletelooks so great, Rene!! I love the fresh update!
ReplyDeleteHi again Rene-
ReplyDeleteForgot to add - for your banquette cushion you can have any fabric you love laminated. It is clear and better then vinyl as you can use the fabric of your choice and not limit yourself to a few vinyl options. I had it done on my banquette cushions using a company called Custom Laminations. It is to the trade only, but don't let that deter you as anyone with a sales tax number can order it. You can check it out here:
http://customlaminations.com/custom-laminations/vinylizing.html
They do lots of other treatments to fabrics and wallpaper, but the vinylizng is the best. It takes about 2 weeks to get once you send them your fabric. I have an acct with them and they were so easy to work with. Not sure of the pricing anymore, but it was about the cost of the fabric when I had it done - probably more now.
Using a Sunbrella fabric would let you be able to wipe the cushions clean, too.
My best- Diane
Your kitchen is beautiful! As for the cushions, I would use an outdoor fabric. There are so many wonderful choices available these days!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I am a huge fan of gray...and I love the rug. Just goes to show, little changes can make a HUGE difference.
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks beautiful. I love the idea of the open shelving and did you remove the detail from the garden window as well? I love the shades and how open and fresh it all looks. That first photo is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen, Rene. The shades are perfection. I just emailed my friend your tutorial - she wants to do the same thing for her girl's nursery!! I also love how you took the cabinet doors off your upper cabinet!!
ReplyDeleteLove what you have done! The shades are beautiful as is the plate wall...great paint choices.
ReplyDeleteI think my last comment somehow disappeared, so sorry if it comes up double! The open cabinet makes such a difference in terms of airiness, as does the color in your kitchen, although it was already beautiful to begin with! I'm reading this with great interest since I'm currently giving my kitchen a makeover!
ReplyDeleteCamille
Rene, love the new wall color, shades, beadboard backsplash, and the FEEL of your kitchen & eating area. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a lovely update! I love the light and brighter look! You made great choices! Wanda
ReplyDeleteNice changes! I like the way you showed the befores and afters together. Is the Owl Gray in the kitchen and dining room? It looks like a perfect soft gray. And... the rug in the kitchen is Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCindy
The lamps shades above the dining table are fabulocity...such great texture. Check out our blog post on Cute Kitchen Windows I think we'll have to add yours now!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is really beautiful, Rene. Such a nice open and light feel to it and a great space to work in. I love your rug!
ReplyDeletejust the right amount of change...your kitchen is beautiful Rene. thanks for the tour.
ReplyDeleteI love the color of the walls! Lightens the whole kitchen. I like the doors taken off the cabinet too. I've done this on one of my sections of cabinets and would like to do it on at least one more....but that means I'd have to keep that cabinet all tidy and it's stuffed to the brim with antique china...so I don't think it's going to happen till I get better organized. Love your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody! Thank you for taking the time to visit and to leave a comment. I enjoyed reading all of them :)
ReplyDeleteRene, it looks so great! Why not use one of the faux leathers on your banquette cushion? The faux ostrich would look great, I think.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

ReplyDeleteRene - I love how it turned out! The beadboard back splash is so nice and right up my alley. And I think the hanging plates are perfect. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove it all, but those light fixtures are my favorite! Beautiful!! (all of it)
ReplyDeletelove it! I would totally use laminated cotton. Lots of designers are doing it now. I like the Sis Boom patterns but they might be too bright. Just google it or look on fabric.com
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
Rene, thanks for sharing your kitchen at my party last week. I am so late going through these. So busy! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the kitchen rug - would you mind sharing where to find it?
