Black interior doors have certainly made their way around the blogs lately and how could you not love them for the pop they bring to a space? I actually considered painting our front door black on the inside, but decided to try something different.
Did I mention that the family room and entry have been painted BM White Dove? That's right, and this means no more happy tape. In its place is a large mirror which does wonders for opening up the not so grand foyer. I really should be ashamed of myself for changing this little space so many times, but I think I've finally figured out this ill arranged area.
Here is a workinprogress shot of the mirror before I painted it. It is now black and hanging on the wall - pictures to come. Today's tip: Make any room instantly appear larger by using a mirror. So this brings me back to the front door. Painting it black and the mirror black and the rail black seemed like too much of the same. So for something a little different, I painted it blue.
Here it is with the first coat of paint - and doesn't Mr. look happy watching the World Cup? Any soccer fans out there?
I never thought I would say this, but this room is quickly becoming my favorite room. Which reminds me, I am really excited to announce a new series here on the blog called, "My Favorite Room". I have an incredible line-up of guests who are going to share their favorite rooms with us beginning this Wednesday. Don't we all love to see real homes where real people live? This should be lots of fun so stay tuned.

I really like the blue on your door-- I am considering a similar shade of blue for our new front door--- but am trying to get my courage up to use color on it! Take care, Caroline
ReplyDeleteThe door looks fabulous! I love that your "Mr." is giving his pleasant face for the camera. ;-) I'm actually planning to paint the inside, and outside of our door to match our new dining room walls--Calypso Blue! Otherwise our entry will be bo-ring.

Rene, I like the blue and think it'll look great w/your new black mirror!!! The whole fam watched the soccer game yesterday - we loved every minute of it!!! So, looking forward to your series! Can't wait!!
ReplyDeletewoohoo for blue!!! There was a post on the House of Fifty blog about painting the inside of your door and I made a mental note to do it for my door!!! I'm thinking teal or a pretty green!
ReplyDeleteI can'rt wait to see your foyer all complete!
I think blue was the perfect choice!
ReplyDeleteAnd, the funniest thing about this post is that your husband sits exactly the same way mine does, with the same look on his face as I move around him decorating/taking pictures/etc. :) They would probably have alot to talk about. . .
Blue door is very invited both inside and out. What is the vein growing on the outside of your front door?
ReplyDeletei love the blue on the inside, too!
ReplyDeleteine is bright yellow on the outside, so that wouldn't work in my home, so i opted for gray on the inside. :) i can never get enough gray. i just love your blue front door. :)
That color of blue is beautiful! The new series sounds fun, I love see new places!

Dorothy, the vine is a clematis armandi. I hope this helps.

The blue door is beautiful. We almost did a high gloss black on the interior of our front door, but I chickened out.
ReplyDeleteI still want to paint the back of my front door black along with the rails too (right now the door is khaki on the inside, black on the outside...) anyhoo... I adore yours blue!!! It is such a fresh look and with that mirror black I bet it looks fabulous! Can't wait to see it all together!

ReplyDeleteI was admiring a house with a blue front door on a walk the other day. I love your choice of blue. What paint brand and color is it?
We were on the couch like Mr. Happy watching the World Cup - it was very exciting!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Crystal, the color is BM whythe blue. Sorry I left this out of the post.

Love the blue! I'm in love with your giant mirror, too. I'm surprised you hung it instead of just leaving it leaning, but in a high traffic area, I suppose it's safer hung. Can't wait to see the final reveal of your foyer.
ReplyDeleteLove the blue. You're so right about the mirror. We are renovating so I had to move a large piece of mirror to a place where there was a mirror and bureau. Now my living room looks smaller!
ReplyDeletePerfect mirror and blue door! Mine is black and I do love it. I had to laugh at your pretty pillows getting all squished up, exactly the scene over here!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I just painted the inside of the exterior doors both black and I am not sure I like the one so thanks for the great idea! So excited for your new series! You rock!!!
ReplyDeleteI Love the blue, and you can already see that it looks great with the black banister!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Oh, it looks good!
ReplyDeleteOur doors are a dark ocean blue (on the outside) and I've been thinking lately about painting the insides of them as well. And I can't seem to commit to any color other than the same dark blue... black seems like it would be too much and every other color seems like too much of a committment.
I'm planning on taking advantage of the upcoming Sherwin Williams 40% off sale (July 22 - 24th, I think).
I have been crazy over black doors lately, they add such drama to a room...but your blue door blew me out of the water...so fresh and serene.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your new series :).
Love your door, Rene! Looks great and so do the walls!
ReplyDeleteHope that your week is off to a great start!

looks beautiful, Rene! Love the big mirror too. I can see why it's becoming you favorite room. I've got all my bedroom wallpaper, fabric, lighting, art & mirror sitting in a corner, I smile just looking at it leaning up against my wall, I think my bedroom will soon be my favorite room in the house! :) Wish I moved a wee bit faster like you!! Have a wonderful week! xo, Tessa
ReplyDeleteI am SO loving the color of your front door and I think bringing it in will be perfect! Can't wait to see it finished....
ReplyDeletethe blue is such an unexpected beautiful change! great color blue too.
ReplyDeleteashley
LOVE the blue door! just like I love everything you do! It looks great - and yes - mirrors are fabulous additions to rooms!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! I've been toying with the idea of a blue interior door too!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So fresh and beautiful Rene!!
ReplyDeleteNow I know what I'm doing this weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Rene, the black would have been too much. As it is the blue feels so light and fresh and fun. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI love this! So pretty. I've wanted to paint the back of my front door dark to match my other interior doors but I am afraid it will look like a black hole since I don't have a "foyer". I never thought of a color, thanks for the insp!
