I'll bet more of us have a pleather cube than would like to admit. I think this one came from Linens & Things or somewhere similar with a coupon for 1/2 off ( a long time ago). I really do like it for the storage and extra seating; just not crazy about the pleather.
I wanted to experiment with making a slip cover for it and had some extra linen and burlap on hand to play around with. I used linen on top because it is soft and burlap around the sides.
Now that I have made one, the next one will be much easier. What a fun way to dress up those ho-hum storage ottomans.

i don't have a pleather cube anywhere. and yours looks so cute, that now i kinda wish i did. great job, rene!
ReplyDeleteI love it Rene, have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI don't have one, but no want to find one just so I can slipcover it. Yours is absolutely perfect. Love the trim on the bottom too!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! You make everything fabulous, Rene!
ReplyDeleteNo pleather cube here! I do have made several slip covers for cubes like yours and have loved the results. It truly is a simple way to completely change the look of the cube.
ReplyDeleteI have a round one that I want to cover, with cute trim. I really like the kick pleats on the corners of yours.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rene. You are so talented! I love it, especially with the tiffany blue trim.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, I like the more softer, more feminine look.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! It looks so cute with the aqua trim too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great weekend!

This is great! I don't own a cube, but given this amazing project, I wouldn't pass one buy if I saw one.
ReplyDeleteWill you be able to share a sewing tutorial with us, Rene? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to try this, too.
Thanks ya'll! I made quite a few mistakes on this one, but learned a lot. Maybe I will make another one and do a tutorial then. If you see a cube in a thrift store, grab it :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great Rene! I don't have one but wish I did so I could try and make a slipcover for it!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! I don't have a cube, but if I did I would definitely want a tutorial!
ReplyDeleteCute!! I have a couple ottomans that could use one of those! Not pleather, but kid stained ticking...yuck! Love your inspiration photo too! So chic!

so pretty! love the little kick of turquoise too!! yes, a tutorial is in order, please. xo, Tessa
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, and fantastic job. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? You are so amazing. The trim makes it. I have an ottoman the the hubs and I made {our first DIY} that I can not part with. Hmmm. You have me thinking.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Rene! Your cover is super cute with the turquoise trim. You folks who can sew just amaze me.

arg... just lost my comment...so for the second time:
ReplyDeletemmm... burlap and linen over pleather! It looks great! Definitely try it out with a small print fabric... fall is coming up so maybe you'll do a wintery slipcover?! :)
No pleather cube here, but I do have one of those Ikea storage ottomans. You know, the one with the fabric handles...used to be white... desperately needs a slipcover. A pattern like this would work perfectly!
I love the new look!! This is so ironic because we have the same pleather cube and I was playing around with some fabric on it this past weekend. Ours is currently being used as a prop for our daughter who will be walking soon, so it's taking a beating. But I would love to pretty it up like you did. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThta looks so great, Rene! I don't have a pleather cube. Wish I did now! The turquoise trim is fun and adds the perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job transforming your cube to a real decorative beauty! I love the attention to detail.
ReplyDeleteYvonne
Love the trim at the bottom! What a great transformation!
ReplyDeleteI don't but now I feel as if I need one...:)
ReplyDeleteJust so I can cover it as you did......so cute!
no cube here! but yours looks great now : )
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Is the slipcover easy to make for a beginner? I have one of these cubes and would LOVE to hide the pleather (what was I thinking when I purchased it???)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job! I have two cubes, I'd like to do something with. Any chance you could give me a quick tutorial?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Lori

Rene, it's so cute and you'd never know what lies beneath! Love it!
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteashley
I love, love, love this transformation! The blue trim is perfect! It has given me an idea for a cube that my husband will not part from as we move it into the new home:) Take care, Caroline
ReplyDeleteI don't have one but man I wish I did!! I love the aqua trim, so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteRene, that is so adorable! I can't believe how you just whipped that up! It inspires me. I have that cocktail ottoman (stained and ugly cotton) that needs covering!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, Rene!! I have some storage cubes just like that - your post has the little wheels in my brain turning.
ReplyDeleteLove your slipcover! Great idea to use linen on top where one might sit on it and leave that fantastic burlap texture for the sides. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fantastic makeover - I see these cubes all the time and I just adore the added slipcover. So pretty! Have a fabulous week ~ Stephanie Lynn
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love the burlap look! I'm so impressed!
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from Met Monday. I hope you have a great week!
Pam
ok, I need to re-do mine now! Piping, a bright colored trim- perfection! LOVE what you did with it
ReplyDeleteWow -- that looks amazing! I love the ribbon trim too, such a great pop of color!
ReplyDeleteI have a pleather cube! It doesn't have a lid that comes off like yours does. The pleather ripped at the seam right down the middle of the seat. I have a sewing machine but the only thing I've ever used it for is to make cornhole bags. Learning to sew for real is one of my to-dos for the year. A cover for my cube seems easy enough that even I could probably do it!
