Welcome to the "Room by Room" party!! My apologies for being a bit late to the party. I always like to make a grand entrance. Ha!
This month we are taking a look at living/family rooms. If you missed the party last month where we shared entryways & foyers, you can check it out here and the highlights here.
Our family room has been going through a metamorphosis, and still isn't finished, but I will show you what I have so far...
I am in need of "cozy" pillows and would love something in a rich velvet for the cooler months. Maybe an indigo blue?
A little shot of the beginnings of a gallery wall all painted by family and friends. Love those little reminders. You can read about the slipcovered chair here.
The TV is officially mounted over the fireplace. I fought it for years, but it turns out to be the best scenario in our little family room with its bagillion doorways, windows, and staircase. The walls are plaster and the wall on the other side is brick so drilling into the wall wasn't an option. I painted the cords to match the wall and we stapled them as closely as possible to the mantle. I can share more details in another post if anyone wants them. The vase came from Joss & Main. Did anyone see the collection curated by Caitlin Wilson? Everything in the collection was beautiful and I wanted it all, but settled for this "Harriet Vase". Love, love, love it!
Does anyone remember this piece? It is almost finished, but you can at least get the idea. I still have a couple of spots to patch and repair, but wanted to show the direction. I contemplated keeping it black, but am so happy that I went with white. I will share more about this in a later post.
Here is one of my favorite pieces of art by my blogging friend Heather. Pretty much everything in this image came from a thrift store other than the Heather's abstract & the topiary which I made.
I'm still in the market for a fireplace screen and andirons, but I did bring in a bucket of sticks to add an organic element. Girlfriend thinks they are for her and has made several attempts to pull out a stick to chew on ;) . I think she likes the blue curtains also.
Let's party! Grab a button or at least link back to this post so that others can join in. Try to visit a few of the links - it is nice to mingle after all. I cannot wait to see your rooms! Thanks so much for coming!

Rene, whenever I read about how you started over in this room, I get inspired to do the same. Your room is beautiful and feels so comfy. Love the idea of the indigo accents. Maybe someday I'll actually take your cue and do something to my LR!!!

Thank you so much for hosting. I'm thrilled that I got here in a timely manner! Love your pooch. My dog chews on sticks too. Have a wonderful week!
How about navy black pillows for your sofa? Nate Berkus was on the Today show this morning talking about it. Yes, it is one color and the sofa they had in it was gorgeous!
Thanks for the party, Rene!

Rene, seeing this just makes me want to come over and visit with you in real life in that pretty room!!! Love the pillows on the couch (so far) and love the idea of velvet indigo blue. I've got to show my hubby your tv mounted - you know that's been on my list for a good year, but other projects keep cropping up. I have to admit I like the black over the fireplace - it picks up on other black elements in the room! Thanks for hosting....look forward to seeing everyone's rooms!
I am in the process myself. Thank you for sharing these rooms, Rene!
Have a great Monday.

I love your home, Rene. You have such a great taste. Your dog is adorable. thank you for hosting.
With a mammoth to do list this morning, I told myself that I was only going to read one blog and I knew it would be yours. In your lateness, I've been able to get a bunch of stuff done so it's time for a little break! :)
Your living room is lovely! It looks welcoming and comfy! Of course, I noticed your blue curtains :) and your artwork. I'm learning that it's so worth it to make sentimental stuff work. Even if it isn't exactly my style... (ie my grandmothers paintings).
Speaking of blue velvet... I just got three different shades on my last fabric run! Maybe one of them would work for you? I'll email you some pics.
I love how it's all coming together, Rene. And I love the pop of green pillow as well. You have done such a great job styling the vignettes.
Hi Rene, just linked up to your wonderful party, thanks so much for hosting, xo Debra
Your living room is so pretty, Rene. I love the gallery wall that you've started and all of the personal touches. I need to start shopping for my white sofa. Great job.

Thanks for hosting again, Rene..happy to be a part of this. Love all the accessorizing in your room..noticed the larger version of the brass box I purchased..love it!
Rene, thank you so much for hosting! I'm so excited to join you--I've been wanting to join this party, and I'm glad to be here. I look forward to looking at lots of beautiful living rooms!
Rene, I finally got linked up. Thanks for hosting this party.
I just found your blog and party thru another reader. Love this room!! For Fall, how about some blue velvet pumpkins on the sofa? You could make some in lickity split. Just cut out some large circles, run a loose running stitch around the edge, fill with cotton batting and pull up the stitches until you have a ball. And I love the idea of painting the cords....brilliant!
I'd love to know how you made the topiary. Looks like boxwood?
Jennifer, I posted about the topiary here http://cottageandvine.blogspot.com/2011/10/about-topiary.html
I hope this helps.
