One of my readers recently asked about the topiary in our family room and it reminded me that I never shared the new and improved topiary with you.
If you have been following my blog for a while you might remember this project when I made my first attempt at DIY topiary.
Kind of pathetic isn't it? Looks like a puppy that hasn't grown into it's feet or something. I lived with it like this until I couldn't take it any more. Finally I picked up a few bunches of faux boxwood at Hobby Lobby hoping to make the scale a little better.
I don't have a picture of the steps, but here is what I did...
The faux boxwood comes in long branches and I cut off the individual stems because I wanted my topiary to be full and to scale. Once I had all of the pieces cut ( I think it took 1 1/2- 2 branches per topiary) I began hot gluing the ends and placing the boxwood into the foam ball until it was filled in.
And that, my dears, is the compelling story about how my puppy grew into it's feet. Ha! Have fun kiddos!

Your puppy looks great! I love topiaries, this will go on my to do list!
ReplyDeleteThanks,Debbie
Love that analogy Rene! So pretty.....even I could keep that one "alive" :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the fuller look! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletei love the new look! it looks like a perky, peppy puppy now!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great vignette. It's all pulled together so nicely and the topiary is the perfect amount of height and texture.
ReplyDeleteLove your topiary! A simple project with a big bang.
ReplyDeleteIt's got life and a great color and the size is more balanced...a good-looking topiary.
ReplyDeleteI am liking this "puppy" better! I have attempted making a topiary before, mine are always so lop sided..Yours looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCharming vignette and the topiary looks great now.

LOL! It looks amazing now. I hear people talking about holly lobby all the time. In my area we only have Micheals - - which don't care faux boxwood at all.
ReplyDeleteVery clever, Rene. A beautiful topiary!
ReplyDeleteLooks really great!! I bought the ones from Ballard and was really disappointed. Should probably try your method.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought that it was DIY. It looks really great!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Rene! I may have to try it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - it makes a big difference and is the perfect size now.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteLove it and I want to try my hand at it sometime. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat size is the foam ball you used? What did your finished diameter end up being? How much faux boxwood did it take?
ReplyDeleteI've got a boxwood topiary project that I want to do and am trying to figure out what all materials to purchase.
Stephanie, the foam ball was about 5". The finished ball is 10". One topiary required 1 1/2 branches of boxwood. I hope this helps.
