I don't know if it is pinterest overload or what, but these roller shades just aren't doing it for me in the kitchen. While I am happy that this little project inspired literally thousands of people (and by the way, I wasn't the first one to do this), I am ready to move on. This is the good thing about not spending a lot on home improvements. If you change your mind, ahem, then the cost is minimal to shift gears later.
In walk new pillows from Joss & Main. I am in love! Gray and green makes me one happy girl. Now I have a plan for the banquette cushion or at least I think I do. Maybe that should be another post.
So back to the window. Because the bay window doesn't lend itself to window treatments I am beginning to like the idea of painting them black. What do you think? Here are some images that might sway you in case you need convincing.

Some of the images are with black doors and others are with white. I think either way works and lean toward keeping everything white except the windows. I still have the grids for the windows and could easily paint those and the windows black.
Or leave the grids out like this. What do you think? Am I crazy? Don't answer that ;)

Do it, you have the perfect windows for it !
ReplyDeleteYES with the black - it will look fabulous with your dark counter tops!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - do the black! It'll look so great in your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteHow could you even question that chic black trim or the fact that you are crazy on to something so good. I hope it is already painted black....cause you are crazy fast like that.
ReplyDeletepve
Oh YES!!! It's edgy, unique and perfect! Can't wait to see the results....
ReplyDeleteCathy
GO for it!.....smiles
ReplyDeleteHaha! That was fast! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI think it would look fantastic. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteNOT crazy!!!!! i LOVE tht! i might steal the idea when we get around to our kitchen. LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI love the color on the windows I painted the door in my kitchen the same color as my cabinets and I love it Now the windows are vinyl and if I could find a way to paint them and the girds I would. So I think YES
ReplyDeleteI'd do it, you can always paint over it if it's not what you wanted, I painted one set of my kitchen cabinet shelves black and I love it! My husband didn't understand but after I was done and the white bowls set on the shelves he had to admit it looked good!
ReplyDeleteDo it! I love the look of black trim on windows, I have been debating about it for awhile. It will be fun, and if you don't like it, it can always be painted again :).
ReplyDeleteLOVE the black!!
ReplyDeleteI really love the black and could go either way with the grids. Of course you're not crazy...you're just like the rest of us :) At least we have blog world so we can all relate.
ReplyDeleteNOT CRAZY AT ALL! And yes, that warranted caps. I say go for it. Black-trimmed windows feel like they've been treated with a little eyeliner. Go for it, Rene!
ReplyDeleteYes, black windows for sure. I always loved this look. Wonder if it can be done on vinyl windows? Do share how yours turn out.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the black window trim popping up all over the place and love that punch it gives a room. It would look great with your counters!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad i'm not the only one who changes course like that :) I love the idea of painting them black.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of painting them black...like Cathy said it's edgy...but still traditional. With or without grids...but kinda like the grids because it's more black! Can't wait to see it!

Love your idea - especially with grids back in painted black too. It will tie in w/the counters and look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIf you're crazy, then we're all crazy! Like you said- it's okay to change things up when you didn't spent a lot of money in the first place!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the black window frames! I say, paint one grid and see if you like it!
Obviously not alone in saying...go for it girl!! It will look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...the black is gorgeous. Can't wait to see your finished project...seems like you are leaning that way :)
ReplyDeleteLove those big metal french doors too...yowser I need those.
And, this is why I love blogging. Just like that I am convinced to put 15 other projects on hold to begin another one. Thank you friends :)
ReplyDeleteGo for it! I think the black windows look amazing and you have the perfect kitchen for them to really stand out!

Love the pics! The kitchen pictured from Willow Decor is my dream kitchen, I have pictures of it in my 'dream house' album and would LOVE to recreate it... its amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely must do it!!!! How cool would that be?!?!? I know, VERY COOL!
ReplyDeleteIt'll look great with your countertops!
ReplyDeleteI really love the look and REALLY want to do it in my kitchen when I renovate but I was wondering if it's okay to have it in just one room.
ReplyDeleteSo you just go right on ahead and do it so we can all see what we think. I agree; it would be perfect with your countertops.
What an awkward place to paint though!
I think it would look good as your window has some really sunny natural light (more than a lot of the other inspiration pics) and it has dimension (being a bay window) and with a plant like the one you have there now it will be stunning..you can always paint over the black down the road.
ReplyDeleteI vote yes, too! I love the way that black windows frame a view. I adore steel framed windows, but they're so much $$$. Black painted windows are a good way to get the look. Can't wait to see yours painted out.
ReplyDeleteoooo i think the black will look amazing.
ReplyDeleteI vote you leave the grids out and just paint the inside frames black. Yes you are crazy but we are all crazy too! That's why we all get along so well:)

yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha! You all are too funny! It is unanimous (sp?). Steve, I wondered the same thing about only painting windows in one room. You cannot see windows of other rooms from our kitchen so I think it will be ok. Amy, yes being crazy about the same things does make us closer :)
ReplyDeleteThanks ya'll!
I absolutely love the idea of painting them a dark color. What about a very dark charcoal? Almost black, but not quite...
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go ahead and paint the grids and see which way you like them best.
Good luck!
I love the black and white contrast...such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI really liked a couple of those kitchens. As for the question at hand: Black. No grids.
ReplyDeleteListen, I am a fan of painting just about anything black so I'll be your most enthusiastic cheerleader on this one.
ReplyDeleteCamille
love love love it. I have been collecting images of painted black windows for about a year but I added that first one of yours to my collection since I didn't have it. I had been thinking of doing a similar post. I'm just not sure if I have the courage to actually paint them. It's a whole lot of work if I don't like them. :0 You do it first and I will copy you.

I know the Black is Classic but so is Navy and it's a little
ReplyDeletesofter look.
Painting wood is hard work unless you have no prep work,
and in the future, it's going to be difficult to cover such a dark color. So MAKE SURE that you love it!! ( :
Of course you're not crazy - if you're crazy than the rest of us are too! :) Well I love your roller shades but I also think painting the windows black or a dark color would be quite the handsome look - I love the look...A LOT.
ReplyDeleteOh, I have always love black windows. So dramatic! Can't wait to see how they turn out! And your pillows are awesome.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed in party conversation that you find yourself focusing on someone's eyeliner instead of their lovely eyes? Your bay draws your beautiful outside view inside. I wonder if painting the window black might deter. There is a lot of trim in that ol' bay. That said, paint is cheap therapy. Have fun standing in the sink while you have at it! :-)
ReplyDeleteBlack, black, black! Paint 'em! I plan to paint our backdoor black... maybe over the Christmas break. We'll see! I'm really loving this look!
ReplyDeleteI vote for painting them! :) If you don't, you'll always wonder, won't you?! And if it doesn't turn out like you think, then you can always pull out the paint again!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such a unanimous vote for yes!!! So guess what...I totally agree. Have thought about doing it as well but I would have 6 windows to do.....
ReplyDeleteI do love the look. Don't think you're crazy at all! Have you considered another color other then black since your counters are black? Mine are all vinyl so there is no painting them :(
ReplyDeleteI was excited to see the Green pillows since I ordered them from Joss & Main too! I have them on my bed and love them!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm back. I think those black windows are great. I want to paint the interior side of our exterior doors glossy black. Our neighbor has it, and they look great. Plus, no fingerprints show up. I pinned some of your photos. I am a first time visitor but will be back.
ReplyDeleteSuch a stunning contrast! I say YES, do it! :)
