Back to design. I am working on a couple of client projects that have large empty wall spaces. This is always a great place for shelves if you don't already have them in the room. There are so many ways you can go with this.
I love, love, love this idea of stacking Ikea shelves (4 total) to achieve this look.
Another Ikea hack is to trim out a bookcase and use strategic lighting to give it a more custom look.
Five narrow bookcases side by side with task lighting do the trick.
This works for me on so many levels. With photographs and art work there you almost don't see the stacks of magazines.
These are actually built-ins, but I love the idea of wrapping a corner using two bookcases butted up together.
This might be a better example.
If white bookcases aren't your thing, I always, always love seeing a secretary or hutch filled with books and interesting items to add height to a room.
I'm off to the races. Have a great day!

Is there anything better than all the bookcase choices IKEA has? I love their glass door options, too. Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBack to school for us today, too - where to start?!
Rene- Happy New Year! I can't wait to see what you do in 2012!
ReplyDeleteMy living room bookshelves will go in a new spot when my windowseat project is done. (Which means they'll be moved SOON - yea!) and you've provided a good dose of inspiration!
Wouldn't it be cool to hack some "secret" storage in those hug-the-corner bookshelves? A little door to get a box into the corner areas?

I love seeing bookcases as a backdrop, basically ignored in terms of placing furniture in front of them and hanging art on them. Books as wall treatment. And you have a few nice examples here.
ReplyDeleteYou NEVER have enough bookcases! Love these. Hope your son gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Audrey
Rene, I have been pinning bookcases like crazy - thanks for all the new inspiration photos! I'm looking to build a whole wall of bookcases in my living room this year....possibly an Ikea-hack.
ReplyDeletein our last house we did the corner idea with the two ikea bookcases- i loved it! i just ove what bookcases can do for a room- i agree about height, interest.... they add organization.... and they are a great way to show who you are. the collections, photos, and books we put on them say a lot about he people who live there.
ReplyDeleteMany of these images are brand new to me, and they have me itching to rearrange my ever-expanding book collection.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Glad to hear your son is doing better!
I love built-ins or any shape or size. I think it adds so much character to a room!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a wall of tall bookcases.
ReplyDeleteAwesome inspiration images, Rene, as always! The Ikea bookshelves done in a custom way are really great-looking.
ReplyDeleteI love books and therefore love bookshelves! My dream is to have floor to ceiling bookshelves one day with one of those rolling ladders. :) Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
ReplyDeleteI love these! I, too, am obsessed with the idea. I have a really long wall in my living room and plan to do wall-to-wall bookcases to mimic built-ins. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your little guy is on the mend. What a trooper.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are truly inspiring. When you can achieve such a fantastic look from Ikea, there really isn't an excuse not to have them. Right?
I really really hope we have some nice built-ins in our next home, but if not then I'll be rigging up one of these Ikea looks that's for sure. They are such a great storage option and also a great way to add some style and color. That first image is my favorite. Aw, I could tell you were a little hesitant about your son going back today but I bet he had a great day back at school and glad to hear he's doing well. I guess those feelings never go away as a Mom. My daughter moved up to the next room at her day care and I was beside myself. So happy for her but a little sad too - she's such a big girl.
ReplyDeleteLiving with boys is always an adventure - especially when they weild sticks and ride snowboards. Fun color choice on the hardcast!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing these bookcases that are actually full of books! So often I see them styled with only a handful of books interspersed between the artwork and ceramic animals, and I think, "but where do you keep all your books?" Great images! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh...where can I put some bookshelves.....I so love this look!
ReplyDeleteI have been working on a post on bookshelves/libraries and have just seen this. These are great examples - I love the look and the lived-in feel and that there are numerous ways to enjoy, decorate and/or organize books. Happy New Year, Rene!
