Thoughts for the Day - 21 Years

21 years ago today my husband and I were married.  This means two things.  Yes, I am that old.  And, 21 years means a lot of ups and downs.  I have learned a lot in those years and have much more to learn.  Some of you aren't married, some are newly weds, and others have been married longer than I have and could probably write a book.

I am not an expert by any stretch and could have done a lot of things better, but here is what I have learned...

  • to listen
  • when you are 34, 44, etc. you aren't the same person you were when you were 24. stay connected
  • to be honest
  • if mom & dad are happy, the kids will be too.  make your marriage your priority
  • to forgive
  • to laugh
I could probably go on and on about this subject, but I will leave you with this thought...

Happy anniversary Rene and congrats on 21 years! We had our tenth last year. Eric was out of work and we had no idea what was to come, but I wouldn't have changed anything for the world and I still wouldn't. There are some days that are really, really hard, but it's so worth it.

Take care,
Lori

Hi Rene. I am in the married over 20 year club myself! We are so blessed, I don't think the majority of marriages make it this far anymore. Happy anniversary to you and your husband!

Congratulations! Quite a feat. I am in the "pushing thirty club"--my husband and I got married in 1983, when I was twelve. ;)

Happy Anniversary Renee! I've been married a good number of years more...but your advice is right on. It's all about communicating! We've had our ups and downs, but he is my very best friend!

Rene, happy anniversary to you and your hubby! You picked a great date -- today is my birthday! I've been married 16 years to a wonderful guy -- one who is in the kitchen right now baking me a birthday cake from scratch. We took the day off, went out for lunch and then bowling! It was such fun. I love your list of things that keep a marriage strong. So true!

Have a wonderful anniversary.

Congratulations on 21 years! I remember when I was first married and I thought 15 years would be a forever long time but somehow the years just pass by so fast! Love your words of advise, all good...enjoy your special day! :D
