On-line Client : Part 1

If any of you are sitting on the fence about painting your oak stair rail, this might convince you.

before

Last fall, one of my on-line clients asked for my help with her entryway/stairway.  One of my recommendations was to paint the stair rail black and to add photography on the landing.  This might make me the most boring person on earth, but when I finally get to see pictures of a plan coming together, I get crazy excited.  Yesterday I received a few pictures of the updates.

after

How is that for an improvement?  My clients were already planning to remove the carpet and refinish the stairs (good call).  Do you not love the photography?!

I will share a few more pictures Monday.  Have a great weekend!

Ok- you definitely convinced me! I have a rail combination of oak/white. I want to paint the railing and front post black and then keep the spindles white. You convinced me! Do you think you have to sand, prime and paint or can you just prime and paint?

That is such an incredible difference! WOW!

I have thought about doing this to a rail in our Galena home for a couple of years now but just never did it. I love how it looks here. Maybe it will be enough inspiration to get me off my duff. :D
Thanks for the motivation. Have a great weekend.

What a difference! I'm definitely going to remember this should we ever move to a house with light oak rails and carpeted stairs. Really nice!

Wow! My internet has been down and I am just now seeing all of your comments. Thank you!

Simple Dwellings, I think lightly sanding, cleaning, priming, then painting is probably a good idea. Let me know if you try it.

René

The design of the Blogger comment box changed (I think). Anyway, this is making me want to paint mine in a bad way. And the photography looks so good - maybe I'll add some photography for the time being and then decide on the railing. This is great Rene! I had to skip to this post before I read today's.

I have this same issue and the runner has to come off. I do not want a white railing because it is a high traffic area and have been contemplating black. Your client and you made a great choice, Rene.

I SO wanted to paint our stair railing black in our last home! It looks great, Rene.

This is actually my house (thank you Rene!). So glad to see all the nice comments. For those of you with carpet stairs, RIP IT UP! The stains were just crazy dirty. I don't understand why anyone would build a house with carpet on the stairs.

It sounds crazy but if you are saving $$ for the floor renovation ..try painting the floor black. You would have the have the right sub floor but I think it would work. I have seen it with a runner and you would NEVER know!

Thank you Rene!!
