When I saw the following images, a diy project immediately came to mind....
Isn't the trim detail great? Solid curtains sometimes need a little more interest to make them pop. Often you see trim on the leading or outer edge, but I rather like this version with horizontal stripes do you?
Even though these curtains appear to be silk or chintz, you could make you own version using a pair of Ritvas and adding grosgrain ribbon. You could fancy them up even more by adding pinch pleats to the top. Ritvas are so inexpensive you could double them for added fullness. I might even try it myself.
This reminds me of my client who wanted horizontal striped curtains in her living. We considered a couple of options, but when I showed her this image (thank you Fran) she knew in an instant that this was what she wanted. I am so lucky to have clients with great style.
The plan is to add ribbon to achieve this look. I cannot wait to see the results!
Happy weekend!

i can't wait to see your rendition- and i am with you and am loving all the pink i am seeing lately, which is unexpected! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to add a ribbon trim on the edge of my kitchen curtain panels - hopefully this weekend! Although I like the horizontal stripe idea for my guest room.
ReplyDeleteI was just at IKEA yesterday checking out the draperies. I need to set aside some time for Adore and House of Fifty - I haven't been able to really dig in yet just browse. That inspiration photo for your client is beautiful - can't wait to see the project. Have a great weekend Rene!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this idea!!! Please try it so we can see! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this DIY idea! These images are beautiful. A little trim would be the perfect addition to simple curtains! :)

I love simple white/beige curtains but this is something really interesting. Too bad I only have a pair of blinds in my new apartment!
ReplyDeleteI have the same thoughts on pink for the last couple of months.

Wow, that last image is so inspiring, Rene. I would never have thought to do horizontal ribbon trim to create stripes, but this is going to look awesome. I can't wait to see! And I've actually been wanting to spice up my white Ikea curtains for a while now. Thanks for some more ideas on how to do it!
ReplyDeletePink...and navy...who knew it could be love at first sight....
ReplyDeleteThe ribbon really adds a nice touch! On the subject of chairs....I want those pink chairs for my house! Have a great weekend, Rene.
ReplyDeletePink is my friend these days... how did that happen!? Didn't we all vow to ban pink from our inner circle. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea...it adds so much to a simple and inexpensive curtain from Ikea. Now if only I could sew...all these DIY projects add up when for me, it's not really DIY.
ReplyDeleteI love easy updates like this one. Great inspiration pics! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes!
ReplyDeleteAwesome ideas! I want to try this on our shower curtains, if only I could also use the ribbon to extend the length. Tucking this one in the idea file for sure.

Hi Rene! I discovered your blog many months ago and have really enjoyed it. I love this idea of horizontal striped curtains. I purchased some Ritvas in white but got home to realize they are not as white as I would like. I've never bleached anything in my life but I was wondering if that would get them whiter (although the label says "do not bleach")? Or do you think dying them with Rit might work? Thanks for your help and inspirational projects! Beth
ReplyDeleteBeth, if you are looking for a brighter white you might try peroxide (oxi clean for example)? It has the power to whiten without damaging fabric. Before doing anything, I would test an inconspicuous spot first. I hope helps. Good luck!

Thanks, Rene! I'll try that. I did some more research on bleaching and Rit and if the oxyclean doesn't work, I think I'll just live with the slightly off whites. Beth
