Client Inspiration - DIY Art

I have been very fortunate to be called upon by so many sweet clients.  My design business has really taken off thanks to my on-line clients, living social promotion, as well as local home owners who need my help.  To say that my dreams have come true would be an understatement.  Because of the work I do, I am still able to be home with my family and have the freedom that I have come to enjoy and cherish.  So, thank you to everyone who has made this dream a reality!

A recent on-line client of mine who has been in the process of extensive home renovations sent me this image for inspiration.

The image came from Cote De Texas, one of my favorite blogs, and the designer was Emily Johnston Larkin.  I love everything about it!  The room was planned on a small budget which you can read more about here.  One idea that caught my attention was the art behind the sofa (ektorp by the way).

These are old letters that were enlarged on a copier and framed in Ikea frames.  I think I saw this same concept highlighted in Southern Living a while back - does anyone remember?  This is a great low cost, high impact solution to fill the large wall.  The fact that the letters hold so much meaning makes it even better.

Do you need help planning a room?  Sometimes a mood board is all you need to jump start a space.  For more information about my services go here.

  1. I have been thinking of enlarging the writing on a postcard I have ever since I saw this photo. I love the grouping or one framed would be great as part of a gallery wall!
So glad for you that your business has taken off, Rene! You are so talented, I am not surprised.

  3. Great idea for artwork. And I just love those orange imperial trellis pillows in that room. I hadn't seen that exact art project before. Wheels are turning!

  5. Oh, I love this idea! I just sold a china cabinet that was in my living room (occupational hazard) and moved a narrow farmhouse table in to serve as a desk. I've been racking my brain to come up with inexpensive wall art for above the desk. I have some old letters from my beloved grandmother in the attic - this is the perfect reason to dig them out. Thanks for such wonderful inspiration!!

  8. The letters are a fab idea! I love seeig the Ektorp sofas on your blog because I have two!! I think they are such a great choice for a sofa! the removeable covers are so handy - especially with children and pets. Looking at this photo - you'd never think it was Ikea - would you!
