A Change of Plans and Covered Porches

We had last minute plans to pack a carload of boys, a dog, and a heap of groceries into the car and head to the mountains for the weekend, but with rain in the forecast, we decided to stay home instead.  I pictured us all sitting in the carport watching the rain pour down with the New River in front of us if we could only see it for the rain.  Fish don't bite when it rains.  Kayaking isn't very fun.  And you can only play so many games of rummy before you go nuts.  Oh well, maybe next time.  Suddenly I feel so relaxed.  No plans.  Nowhere to go or be.  I can do this.  Aaah.

I do love a rainy day on a covered porch though.  Maybe not with four boys wrestling under foot, but rather with a good book, a soft blanket...and maybe a bottle glass of wine.  These porches would sure do the trick for me.

Sorry about my lack of posts this week.  Between a sick child and client deadlines, I haven't had much time for the blog.

So, do you have plans for the weekend or are you like me - breathing a sigh of relief?  Whatever your plans are, enjoy!  XX

  1. Ahhh a found weekend…that sounds lovely. Although heading up to the mountains sounds wonderful too…hope you get there with your carload of boys another weekend. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend at home and a nice bottle, I mean glass, of wine! :)

  2. This summer we have been staying close to home after surviving all our renovations. Our list is long of things we still need to finish but we are so happy to make this sacrifice for our home.
    Next year we will travel.....

  3. Someday.... We're supposed to have some rain this weekend too. Maybe I can just open a window and listen to it and pretend. :)

  5. An unexpected staycation is the best! I am procrastinating packing for the beach as I type this. The process of getting for a trip sometimes outshadows the vacation - right now, a relaxing, rainy afternoon on one of the porches you posted sounds about perfect!

  13. Love these images! They are inspiring me to do something with our porch besides just constantly using it for painting projects. I have had a sick child this week too which has totally derailed me. That and an out of town husband and computer problems were enough to make me jump ship with the blog! I hope your sick one is on the mend...

  14. Hope you're feeling better. We missed you! I would love a covered porch. Our deck is too hot to use in the heat! what a shame.

  15. It's been rainy and gloomy here all weekend as well and I'm really loving it. I love just hanging around the house in PJs - not having any plans. I was looking at some houses last night with a friend who is moving, and the ones that I really loved had a nice covered porch or screened in porch - definitely on my wish list for our next home. I love that first one! Hope you're enjoying your weekend Rene.
