I have long been an admirer of
Kristin Van Ogtrop, editor of Real Simple magazine. This shot of her sitting on the leopard print covered staircase is one of my favorites. In my very humble opinion, animal prints are a timeless classic and every home can handle a little kitty somewhere. Maybe not in every room, but a touch here or there is nice. I also think adding an animal print to the stairs could be the perfect place to unleash your inner feline.
Apparently I am not the only one who likes this look...
Does anyone know the original source?
I am currently working on a foyer mood board. My client mentioned that she likes animal prints. Hmmmm...I wonder if she would go for this? I really like the look of the animal print against a white riser and tread, however, my client plans to leave the risers as is. And now for the million dollar question, what would you do?
what if you ran the runner just up the center of the stairs?
ReplyDeleteI would answer a million times: go with animal print on those stairs! I am dying to get my hands on some animal print and of course stairs are the obvious first choice!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the impact of the animal print would be diminished if you didn't paint the treads. It's a bold design that would make any stairs more fun.
ReplyDeleteI think the animal print would look great against the unpainted wood and would only make it a little more subtle, but it would still be a statement. Plus, depending on which print you go with (leopard?) the textures could be a nice contrast to each other. Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI think the animal print would be basically the same color scheme as what you have now with the wood. I think it needs to be something lighter. If you want to stay with the amimal theme - how about a zebra print???
ReplyDeleteI would do everything I could to convince her to paint! I have had this same thing come up and showing my clients photos and even better, photoshopping their own staircase so they can see what it would look like has changed their minds. But either way ... YES ... unleash your inner kitty!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea, Rene. Especially if you can use the lighter version of the animal print like in the first photo. This will give what appears to be a heavy feeling room a more airy look.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more!
Lori
Thanks so much for your feedback!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of you. Yes to running the runner down the center. AND Yes to a lighter version of a leopard print to lighten up the space. We shall see. Fun stuff!
Wow, I love that look! It's just the right amount of animal print to be feminine and glamourous, but you could mix it up so many ways! Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteMeow......love.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteI say "yes" to animal print on your stairs! I think I mentioned to you Rene that we have a pool....actually, it's an indoor pool. We just finished redoing our pool and the room and used an animal print carpet in that room. We love it! Can't wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE leopard on the stairs- what a hot look!
ReplyDeleteI do love it, but love it more against a white stair!
ReplyDeleteYou asked where this trend started. I do not know who started it for sure, but the first time I saw leopard carpet on stairs was on an old episode of "John and Kate plus 8." It was at the home of a friend (Jody?), who would keep one or more of the children. Definitely not the sister in law's home. That is the one thing I remember about that series!
