A Dining Room Light Update and Winner!

Happy Friday everybody!  What's going on this weekend with you?  Lots going on here.  If you follow on facebook, you may have seen the post about the chandelier that sold.  The movers are coming tonight to pack it up and ship it to its new home in Durham.  Yay!  Hopefully the buyer will share a picture with us.  Now for the new light.

I do love a crystal chandelier, don't get me wrong.  It's just that our lifestyle, as of now, is more relaxed.  I want our dining room to feel more relaxed too.  With that in mind, I have been going through pins of dining rooms that I love and keep going back to lanterns.  Drum shades would be my second choice, but we have those in the kitchen to fill that urge.  So, here we are with lanterns on the brain.

I've been beating the bushes to find just the right lantern for our dining room.  I have searched through a local lighting source, Butler's, (which by the way, if you are in the Greensboro/Winston Salem area, I highly recommend them) and didn't come up with a thing I liked as much as this from Ballard...

The only downer is that it got horrible reviews.  I rely heavily on reviews before I make any purchase.  My husband and I decided to take the chance and place the order.

I just can't stop thinking about how pretty it looked hanging in the Southern Living House.  To be continued.

By the way, for more great pictures of the Southern Living House, check out this post by my friend Sherry.

  1. ooh can't wait to see the lantern in its new home! our dining room needs a new lighting fixture so badly, BUT we are going to redo the kitchen one day in the next year or two (we hope!) and we want to knock the wall that joins them down, so i dont' want to order something and then have to change it when we redo the kitchen.... so for now.... ugly fixture will live on.

  2. First of all...the paper plate idea is brilliant. I can't tell you how many times I have used a whole roll of tape trying to cover a base. Second...I am all over the lantern light fixture...especially since I saw it at the SLH.

  4. Good Morning Rene!

I have the Ballard lantern you are getting and have had it since we moved in and remodeled our home about a year and half ago. I love it! I have not read the Ballard reviews but I really like it! We have it on a dimmer switch which allows to adjust the brightness - which I would recommend.

Can't wait to see it in your room.

  5. we built 17 homes and all our light fixtures came from Butlers.. I love that place so dont worry about the reviews. If you ever have a problem- take it back, they'll work with you.
