Planning My Son's Room

Our oldest son has a new fondness of gallery walls.  Do you realize how happy this makes me?  I shared some images that I thought he might like and he was all over the idea of doing something similar in his room.  He also said it would be fine if I post about the project - so yay!

Our son Tyler is 16, very preppy, swims, loves nature and musicians like Josh Ritter.  He wants to incorporate some of these elements into his walls and plans to give me a "wish list" of what he would like.  He is also requesting black-out curtains.  In the summers, he swims 4 hours a day and is also a swim coach.  When he isn't swimming or working, he sleeps - or at least tries to.  I have a diy project in mind using burlap and blackout fabric that should take care of this problem.  Before we go any further, here is a picture of his room now.  Only in reality, you would see open drawers, clothes everywhere, wet towels, size 12 shoes, etc.  You get the idea.

The walls are Ralph Lauren, grass green which Tyler chose several years ago.  The furniture was mine when I was a child - very traditional, but it isn't going anywhere.  You can read about the white floors that I painted here.

Here is the mood board I came up with.  

I plan to start this project in the next few weeks and will keep you posted.  There is a flurry of activity going on here.  Can you sense it?  My mind is spinning with ideas of things I want to do.  Focus!

On another note, are you enjoying the Olympics?  On any given day, you will find at least one of us glued to the television.  Summer before last, our son was honored to race in the same heat as Olympian Nick Thoman, who just won the silver in 100 back.
