American Dream Cottages

 I recently had the opportunity to check out the new American Dream Cottages.  If you are looking for something to read this weekend while poolside, I think you might like this issue.  Here is just a sampling of what is inside.
I am loving all the patterns in this colorful bedroom and have studied it over and over.



Loving this cool mix of fabrics too.  Just speaks "summer breeze" to me.



I know I say this all the time, but texture, texture, texture is the key to neutrals - plus a touch of green and contrast. 


I want green glasses.  Yes I do.  I want green glasses.  How about you?  Really though, how pretty is this styling?

My Summer Porch, Window Boxes, and a New Light Fixture

Thank you for the sweet comments yesterday about the pictures of my family and me!!!  Ya'll sure know how to make an old lady feel good :)

Several weeks ago I planted the containers on our front porch as well as the window boxes on the front of our house and thought it was high time I share them with you.


Before anyone asks, because I know someone will, the vine is called clematis armandii.  I live in zone 7, by the way.  Anyway, all of our shrubs in the front yard are either evergreens or deciduous plants that bloom white.  So, I decided to also plant the containers with green and white.  I love how clean and simple it looks.  The cast iron planters on the porch are holding white geraniums with shoots of grass in the center for height.

A few weeks back I ordered this light from Joss & Main and love it!  


In case any of you are curious about the window boxes, here are the contents.  I had to force myself to go with an asymmetrical planting style instead of my usual.

Road Trip!!!

How was your weekend?  I hope that you had a chance to enjoy yourselves and do something fun.  Rick, the boys, and I slipped out of town last week for some serious down time.  We headed to our favorite getaway in the mountains. 

There comes a time in our travels when we roll the windows down to smell the fresh mountain air.  I adore this little face I see looking back and me.

And, this guy has gotten so big I can hardly believe it.  He is still just as sweet as ever.

I just had to share pictures of Mom's succulents.  Aren't they gorgeous?!  The copper container holding them is pretty too.
Look at this monster Hen & Chicken!  I think it is happy.  Maybe Mom will share some of the off-shoots with me ;).

Big Improvements With Art & Lamps

Yesterday I spent most of the morning at a new client's home.  Amy, has a great sense of style leaning toward French vintage.  As a matter of fact, she spent last weekend at Luckett's and scored a gorgeous new/old secretary that we placed alongside the stair case.  Sorry I don't have a picture.  We covered several topics on her "wish list" while I was there.  We even began moving furniture around and came up with a better layout for the living room.

This is the living room.  It has high ceilings and the furniture ( mostly the sofa) is a little small for the room.  The sofa is by Lee and is great quality which makes it a keeper - at least for now.  So, we are working around it.

I came up with this art arrangement hoping to bring in a graphic punch and draw the eye up filling in the expansive wall.  Also, larger lamps are going to add so much to the space.

As I mentioned before, Amy has a great sense of style.  The image above is of her guest room.  I love that she is using pink in this room.  Boy moms have to find a place for pink somewhere, right?  We decided on the pink fretwork for panels - so fun!  And, she is planning to add an upholstered headboard to the bed.  This room is going to be gorgeous - lucky guests!

New Pillows for the Patio





A couple of weekends ago, we rented a pressure washer and gave our deck and patio a good rinse off.  I love it when everything is clean and fresh and all you have to do is sit there, relax, and enjoy the moment without fixating on things that need to be done.  Know what I mean?  Of course there is always something that needs to be done, but for now the big things are under control.  I really wanted to add pattern to our outdoor space.  At the same time, I did not want to take away from the green foliage and flowers.  So I found some wonderful black and white striped outdoor pillows on this etsy shop.  I ordered them and they arrived within two days.  Talk about service.  They are exactly what I wanted.  Now all I need is a foot rub and an umbrella drink ;)

P.S.  The flower is false indigo, Latin name baptista.  I love it!  My only complaint as with any flower is that is does not last long enough.  Funny thing, I did not notice the little guy with antennas looking at me until I uploaded the picture.  I think he likes false indigo too.

E-Design Living Room

I recently posted an inspiration image that a client sent me as direction for her living room e-design.  I thought you might like to see the resulting mood board.  My client's style is a mix of traditional, eclectic, and vintage.  She loves neutrals, especially grays.  She wanted the living room to "have a classy feel at the same time comfortable and usable for everyday living."

As you can see, the concept uses lots of creams and whites with the warm gray walls as a back drop.  The baskets, rugs, and Roman shades add a rich organic element while the metallic finishes round out the space  My client is on board with the plan and is very excited to get started.  She began gathering items over the weekend and will hopefully have some pictures to share with us soon.  Fingers crossed.

P.S.  This might just be my favorite mood board yet.  I love the simplicity.

Happy Monday & a Yummy Summer Recipe

How was your weekend?  I hope you had time to do the things you enjoy.  Last night we celebrated Mother's Day at home.  I kept everything simple and most of the food was made ahead of time between sporting events.

I kept it simple because the important thing was spending time with this amazing woman.  Mom has shown me the true meaning of unconditional love and has always set the best example for me.  I love you Mom!


Have you ever had fruit pizza?  It is one of our family favorites - especially when made with fresh seasonal fruit.

Fruit Pizza

  • 18 oz. refrigerated cookie dough.  You can substitute with your favorite homemade sugar cookie recipe.
  • 8 oz.  package cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or other flavoring (almond, orange, or lemon)
  • fresh fruit (berries, kiwi, bananas, mandarin oranges, grapes)
  • 1/2 cup orange, peach, or apricot preserves
  • 1 tablespoon water
Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Line and ungreased 14" pizza pan with cookie dough.  Bake 12 minutes or until light brown.  Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.

In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract.  Spread over cookie crust.  Arrange fruit over cream cheese layer in any design you want.

In a small saucepan over low heat heat, make a glaze by heating preserves and water.  Brush glaze over fruit, making sure to cover the fruit that will turn dark.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.






I have wanted a charm necklace for as long as I can remember.  This year for Mother's Day my husband surprised me and I could not be happier!

A Week In Photos

So here we are at Friday again.  I am looking forward to this weekend are you?  Before I forget, Happy Mother's Day to mothers young and old!  I hope you have the best day and that your families take extra special care of you!

Last week, my blogging friend, Carmel, inspired me with her week in photos.  So, over the week, I tried to snap a few shots throughout my days.  It was kind of fun really - trying to captures bits here and there.  Photography classes are on my bucket list.  One day.  Maybe if I ever have nothing to do.  In twenty years or so.  Maybe.

Warm Neutrals - I'm Digging It

Do you ever find yourself migrating toward a certain color combination?  I do.  And it changes often every day.  One combination I never tire of though is warm neutrals.  Particularly gold/yellow with browns and blacks.  I'm not going to bore you with a whole bunch of commentary on how the rooms work.  But, I think you will see that they do.  Winning game plan:  Be generous with creams and white.  Let your accent color come from an organic element such as flowers or greenery.  Sprinkle in lots of texture and you have a masterpiece.
